it looks like a curled up dead spider, in all honesty.just imagine the spider, but hollow.the first time I found a molt,I freaked out because I thought the spider croaked, then I found it under a different hide. I'd post a pic, but I kinda destroyed it when I tried sexing the spider (examining the inside of the abdominal area is the only easy way to sex a juvenile tarantula, adults are way easier).
But look at the size difference of the spider after its last molt. The first pic was last week, the second is after it's latest molt. 2012-06-01_10-03-31_695.jpg 2012-06-04_10-13-15_976.jpg

I will admit to choosing the species deliberately, as my ex is a true natural ginger. I'd wanted a tarantula for awhile, but she would not allow spiders in the house.so the first thing I did when we split was get a new place, with a new spider.I was up to 5 tarantulas for awhile, but have rehomed all but this one.I was going to sell it too, but then it molted the other day, and I was able to confirm it was a female.so I'm keeping her, and taking her to Arizona with me when I move.

Glad its a female, they live so much longer. My best frind has quite a few ts, including one like yours. They are so pretty. Her goliath bird eater passed away not long ago... she wa really upset about losing her. She keeps a molt on her computer at work!

It's crazy the relative lifespans between males and females of some tarantula species. with most Brachypelma species (the Mexican red-knees and the firelegs are both Brachypelma), if you get 8, maybe 9 yrs from a male, you did a great job carrying for that spider. Females, on the other hand, can do 20+ yrs with the same level of care. Granted, they are slower growing spiders, but it's a small price to pay if you think about it.
