So I know that one of the big reptile supply companies used to carry some hides that looked like this:

27-small.jpg

But they have since stopped making them.

There are a select few that still make them but they're not 'cheap' per se. I have been looking to buy some myself, but the current prices are way too high to buy 25, 50, 100+ of them. I have been talking to some plastic manufacturers in the area and was curious as to how many people would be interested in buying some of these. There would be a number of different sizes ranging from small 6" x 3" x 1.5" (perfect for hatchlings, shoebox racks, and smaller gecko species) to large 12" x 9" x 3" (for breeder racks and larger geckos and snakes).

As far as pricing goes I was wondering what YOU would be willing to pay for the small ones $2, $3, $4+? Large ones $8, $9, $10+? Of course bulk orders would get discounts, 10% off for 10, 15% off 25+, 20% off 50+ or something of the sort (depending on the actual production costs).

I know that some people choose cheaper alternatives such as paper or styrofoam food trays, plant trays, etc... But for those that want actual hides that won't get pushed around too much or flipped, or for those that want clean cut hides that look professional I thought I'd ask.

Just wanted to see what the possible clients/customers/consumers had to say before I decided to go on with it. I'd just like some opinions. Thanks

I would be pretty interested in something like this, especially if a couple different types were offered. (IE- a humid hide type, a type like the one shown, maybe one type with two or more entrances/levels, and one with a food/water dish.)

the store I work at still sells them but they are super exspensive for a peice of black ugliness when you can get a really pretty hide for much cheaper.

I wish there was a way to make stuff look more natural but fit in 10 gallons next to humid hides, its hard to fit a moist hide next another hide in a 10 gallon ya know

As long as they are affordable, I would probably go for something like this.
Also, I probably wouldn't be using them for leopard geckos...

As far as natural and pretty- these aren't it. Haha, I guess this is aimed more at breeders and/or rack systems. They would fit nicely in the racks and look clean/professional. There are many 'naturalistic' looking rock ones out there already.

But then how much would you be willing to pay for them?

You could easily make it more natural looking, cover it in caulk or glue & either sprinkle small rocks or coco fiber on it. Or you could use paper mashay & make a mold to make it look rocky & then caulk or glue with whatever over it. You can also add a plant like the ones that come with the attached plants, just buy a plant you want & cut it off the base & when you make the paper mashay, just make a small hole, put the plant in & put the paper mashay mixture around that plant as a glue, its fairly easy. I would buy a few small ones & do this to make them fir with my tank better.

Neodesha is already producing hides very similar to the Old Zilla design and they are offering bulk discounts.

I have some of these hides and I truly liked them a lot, then they dont make it anymore, so I think I'll order some from Neodesha I need like 40 :)

I use those hides for all my geckos, and I love them. They are easy to clean, sanitize, and stack well for storage. They used to me manufatured by ESU, then Zilla took over the product. They then dropped them after about a year and now Neodasha is making htme. They do not have the X-small one I use for my hatchling, though... and they are very high-priced now.

Ya, I'm in need of the XSmall ones, and was checking to see if this is a viable venture for me. In addition to just getting a couple hundred made for me what would be a good price where some other breeders, as yourself MOGL - I remember we talked about this in December - would be interested in buying some. Just checking if there's even interest enough to follow up on it. :main_yes:? :main_no:?

It looks like a nice, basic hide. I like the idea of having a bunch of inexpensive uniform hides for my rack. Right now I just have upside down mushroom containers and tupperware containers and they don't look that pretty.

I'd be willing to pay up to $5 for a small one, $8 for a medium one, and even $10 for a larger one (Though I don't really have a need for one that size).

Definitely hook me up if you end up getting them.
