Where did you buy your gecko?

I own two female leopard geckos that i bought locally at a pet store. I want to buy a cool male and am not sure where to buy it from, Ive been looking online but i dont know what is credible. There is also a reptile show coming to omaha my home town this april which i will probably go to. Any personal experiences would be helpful esspecially if you are from the midwest. thanks

There are a LOT of breeders on this site that you can check out. Look at the top of the page. Next to site sponsors are their names. Click on those and check out what they have available

I'd be careful with somes show, buys, be sure to ask what they eat, and if they are eating well, or when the last time they were fed. Ask how many of what they were feeding, because you don't want to get one that won't eat for a couples of weeks

I have boughten from several breeders listed above, and the ones I haven't bought from I would still recomend after all the good things I've seen other people post about them. So I would say your safe with any of the breeders up top. :main_thumbsup:

I've never bought online, only because I worry about shipping. I trust most breeders are honest about what they are representing, but call me old fashioned. Personally, two of my geckos are pet store purchases... one because I didn't know better, the other, the classic case of a "OHH I FEEL BAD FOR YOU!".. Skinny AFT with MBD.. Made a full recovery.. not a practice I reccomend, though!

The rest of my leo's I've bought at shows.. A few of them I found online and asked them to be held, and picked them up at the show. I've had nothing but good luck.

A lot of breeders have "upcoming shows" pages on their websites. Or you could e-mail them.

We have an Upcoming Shows and Events section on this forum. You can look to see if there are any threads discussing the show near you. If there isn't one yet, start one and ask who's going. Be sure to look at the breeder's iTrader rating and comments to see what other members thought about dealing with them.

I bought my first one at a pet store, a big chain one. Another one, a local one around here, She's a hypo? I think thats wht the people said on the sight.. Idk.. she was different and looked healthy! And I didn't know otherwise.

My 2nd one, my tremper, I got from the New England Reptile show. She's pretty!

Check out the BOI on Fauna, just utilize the search function by typing in the breeder’s name or business name. If you don’t find anything on them you can always inquire.

I have bought geckos from Kelli (HISS) and Brittney (South Bay Geckos) that i met off the forum. I have also purchased geckos from Jeff Sr and Jr (JMG) as well. I'm currently in contact with many other breeders from the site with purchasing plans in the near future.

I have bought from a very nice breeder right here in BC (and who is also on these forums), and from a local pet store. And that was only because the animals looked healthy and they assured me that they actually came from a local breeder. So far she's done very well - even if I wish she had more of an appetite. :<

Honestly I got both of mine at a chain store and they're both fine and growing up great. Though this was before I heard how bad chain stores usually are. I do have to say, though, that the place I got mine from does a pretty good job with their reptiles. Not saying it's a great idea to buy from chain stores, just saying I've had a decent experience with my two.

I highly doubt I would ever buy animals off the internet though, even from a trusted breeder. The whole idea of shipping them just doesn't sit well with me, even though most people are successful with it. Just my personal preference.
