would you breed a leo that has a slightly curled tail?

Because so many people are buying them and even tho they show signs they breed them then sell babies off that show signs to keep the cycle going. Yes most live just fine but since leos are one of the most popular pets/repitles to breed the engimas i think should only be bred by breeders who are trying to produce better quailty animals over say a kid who bought one to breed to the hypo or high yellow pet store gecko then sells the off spring with no knowledge of the signs of a spinner or head titler. What i ment was its really not a good morph to get experince from as a first time breeder. Like i said great morph just in the right hands and not someone looking to make bucks off them.

I'm going to try to approach this gently, forgive me if I sound "angry" or "upset".

You seem to have a very emotional standpoint when it comes to "culling", euthanasia, and/or the loss of a pet. Which is FINE, but it doesn't fly in the world of breeding reptiles. The emotional reaction to want to "save" the mildly deformed reptile by giving it away to a home who "promises not to breed" is a natural feeling. So until you're comfortable with euthanizing one of your own hatchlings, you should rethink breeding.

The fact of the matter is, the entire human race is untrustworthy. You just can't trust ANYONE now a days. I don't care if it's your best friend or your sister. Once that animal is out of YOUR hands, the new owner can do whatever they please.

As far as the enigma discussion goes...I'm pretty sure that has it's own sec. But if I hatched a spinner or a head tilter right off the bat, I would cull it. However, many enigmas hatch as spinners, but end up growing up perfectly fine, and vice versa.

Its just hard to imagine is all, having to kill something that just came into this world for a defect so little. I know, i know ive been told enough and read enough that, thats not good when it comes to breeding but Sig came from a good breeder who strongly doesnt believe its genetics But thats beside the points. Im not breeding him end of story. A newly hatched hatching is cute but i know i wont have emotional attachements right away so i think culling one would be easier then culling Sig(WHICH i know no one saying i should do).

I know this, thats why i dont trust humans and only get attached to our four legged friends(anything with 3 or more leggs:D) But I know i can trust my life and soul with these to after all the hell that we've gone threw.

Is there? I didnt know still knew to this forum. You said that if they head tilt or spin you kill them then say that most are fine later on? That kinda defets the purpose on culling them doesnt it?

Lol be harsh i dont care its just it seems im making a bad impression on some of the well known users/breeders on there and i was raised to respect my elders either it be in person or talking so its only natural i appologize.

The reason I would cull a head tilter or a head spinner right off the bat is because of the unknown. I have no idea if the gecko is going to live with the problem or grow out of it, and I don't care to. I could keep it as a pet (which I have many geckos that are) but if for any reason I couldn't...in the freezer it goes.

Like I said, I don't trust to anyone I sell to/adopt to, that they won't pass the genetics on.

BTW, I don't think that you made a bad impression at all. In fact, this is one of the most FANTASTIC threads i've read on this forum in a long time! :)

:main_thumbsup:Thats understandable BUT dont All engimas run the risk of being head tilts, spinners, and all that? From what i've read its completly random and they can show signs anywhere down the line 1 year, 4 years 10 years the unknown as you said. Doesnt that make the risks worse then the benifiets? Sure engimas crosses are some of the nicest(i think anyways) but is it worth it? Idk personally and i cant help but still favor the snow engimas's but id never breed them if they showed signs(my engimas Doll is a head tilter when it comes to crickets; obviously only a pet) Ive been told that breeding 2 engimas together is just ASKING for trouble idk how true that is since some breeders are weary of breeding them to start with, this is why i STRONGLY believe only experinced breeders breed them. Obviously i could never coz i dont think i could cull lots of babies but for someone like Ron tremper or Gerrick DeMeyer they obviously know what there doing and produce STUNNING leos.

Thats kinda crappyD: what the human raise is coming to. What people wont do for money now a daysD: makes me sick! again why i prefer four legged creatures to two. A dog wont stab ya in the back and a gecko wont run off with your husbad/wife/partner.

mmm well im glad:D I got the picture not to breed sig wayyyyyyyyy before all this came about but didnt wanna drop it just yet that way others considering breeding a curl tail would get the picture too i tried to make a simple similarity and the enigmas spin/syndrome came to mind along with the dog breeding so i figured others would think the same too THO no one was able to justify why scottish fold cats are still being bred even tho there ears are missing/deformed cartalige(when bred to a normal cat) (bred to there own they get mega messed up) but obviously this isnt a feline fourm. ;D Glad to make a good impression hopefully others felt the same.
