What about somewhere like OK?

It's whithin reasonable driving distance for many, and reasonable flying distance.
Plus it's not as hugely touristy so expenses should be reasonable

IT will most likely be in the middle of the US so it is fair for most to get to, prob in Tx at a large show

I voted yes... I love the idea and could probably attend depending on date/location.

A location that is close to a major airline hub, so that fares are cheaper and easy transportation to the Symposium... and not too touristy, so that hotel rates aren't over-priced (like Daytona!). lol... that is my "wish" list!! I do a lot of event planning (on a smaller scale anyway) so I could help with the organization, if you need. (send a PM)

TX sounds good, I've never been there before!

Based on the last post that would put Houston, Dallas/Fort Worth or Austin the most obvious choices in TX.
Maybe talk to Tim Cole from the Austin Herp Society about the Austin show and find out his hints and tips for running something in the area?

If you do it somewhere in the southwest, you could potentially get a guest speaker herpetologist from a local university to give us some information on our own, native versions of the leopard gecko (Coelonyx sp.). I think it would be awesome if we could actually make this into something educational, and not just from the captive breeding aspects. Perhaps if we publicize our willingness to learn and contribute (via publicity) to reptile conservation efforts we could strengthen our foothold against another HR669? Plus, it would just be fun to do, but I'm a conservationist at heart. ^_~

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I'm sure they'd be more than happy to do some outreach too. I know they do a lot of research with rattlesnakes out there anyway. I don't know who works with geckos though.

Great Idea! I vote for it to be in IL, It's kind of hard to get to another state because i can't drive yet. But then many would face the same problem. I think its a great idea in anystate.
