This is a very good idea. Attempting to try to toss something together with in 6 months is a very crazy idea though. Instead of trying to rush something together i think that proper planning and gathering of funds for an early next year showing would be great. Something around the off season when everyones sched kinda chills out. Not to mention i have like zero vacation time at work for this year and i really want to come.

Actually this has been in the works for a couple years. And most of the planning and events are already taking place. But thank you for your concern of the event. It will be in march of 2010, so there is plenty of time for individuals to plan to come, it will be a blast!

Has there been a date and place selected as of yet?

We have scheduled a date and time. The first symposium will be held at the NARBC Show in Dallas on March 13-14, 2010. We are still working out some final details with Bob Ashley (he is the promoter of all the NARBC shows) but we have a conference room available to us and the event will be promoted along with the show. We will also be building a website and buying a domain name, we will begin rotating banner ads on all the major reptile sites very soon, as well as some other ideas. We do already have one very exciting guest speaker that is confirmed:D and I am positive we will be able to get five more that are just as great. Our goal is to have six scheduled talks given on one of the two days and the other day will be a round table discussion and possibly an auction (we still have to work out the details of an auction with Bob).

We considered Daytona as a location for this event however for those of you that have never attended that show, well, it's really really busy for the vendors and as a visitor if you want to see the entire show you will be busy walking through it all day long on both days as well. I just don't think it would be the best location for what we are trying to do with the symposium. Also I seriously doubt Wayne Hill would be interested in helping us out with the event, and with good reason. He's busy planning the biggest annual reptile event in the U.S.!

Ryan, I appreciate yours (and Nigel's) opinions but this has been in the planning stages for quite awhile now, and since it is actually scheduled for next year I hope you guys will be able to attend. :main_thumbsup:

Dangit, I wish I could go, but I'm writing my dissertation and I really can't afford a trip to Texas. This sounds wonderful though, and I hope someone brings a video camera to post some things up on YouTube for those of us who aren't able to attend! *hint hint* ;-)

That's a great idea about splitting a room with someone(s). Oh BTW we will be renting out a couple of suites and will be providing food and beverage. :D

I think that it may be something to consider to have speakers not only from the breeder side of things, but also for those who are serious pet owners.

I have no plans to breed my geckos, but would love to learn more about how to give them the best life I can through this symposium

Good point, the breeders/guestspeakers will also most likely be covering the care side of tings. So this is were the pet owners can learn. Topics from across the board will be discuss.

I voted "yes", but I wonder if the reason you only have 78 responses is that it seems it's already scheduled and a done deal. I'm not complaining by any means --I think it's great-- but maybe people aren't voting because they don't see the need.
