As many of you already know, a fellow gecko breeder in NY had an electrical fire which destroyed 65% of his home and ALL of his geckos. Here is the original thread: http://www.geckoforums.net/showthread.php?t=38827
At this time, Tony is very sick with MS and is in a wheelchair... and his doctor's are considering hospitalizing him. Speaking on his behalf, he is overwhelmed with the outpouring of phone calls, emails, and PMs frrom members of the gecko community expressing their support, encouragement, and offers to help. It is truly amazing that this community is joining together for another gecko breeder who in many cases people don't even know! Tony is at a loss for words to express how grateful he is to all of you, and especially for the generous offers to send him geckos to help him rebuild his life and bring back his joy in keeping these wonderful animals we all love!
He has asked me to coordinate and facilitate the list of geckos you all are wishing to send. I need to word this carefully so as not to discourage or offend anyone... but I know that if I was in Tony's position and physical condition, I would be so thankful to be receiving new geckos! At the same time, I would be worried about being limited so by my physical condition and space by not knowing what gecko morphs or species I would be getting. With that said, I would like to facilitate on his behalf exactly what he might need to start his breeding projects again from ground zero. What I would like to avoid is: 1.) making this a full-time job for myself since I also have physical limitations, 2.) having Tony overloaded with geckos he cannot use in breeding projects. I hope this does not sound like anyone is being ungrateful, picky, or otherwise unappreciative! I am just trying to be realistic for Tony's benefit.
I will list a few of the projects Tony was working with that all perished in the fire:
- Raptors and Super-Raptors
- Novas
- Embers
- Diablo Blancos
- Enigma combinations
- SHTCTB's
- Bell and Radar projects
- knobtail species
- bearded dragon morphs
- fat-tails
I will be sending him a lovely male tangerine amel fatty, and a female Mack Enigma het Tremper. I will also be sending him a pair of N. milii as soon as my juvies are sexable. So if you would like to help Tony establish any compatible geckos for projects, please contact me via email so I can coordinate a list of geckos for him. Kelli will be giving him a $300 credit towards future gecko(s) of his choice. I think this is an EXCELLENT idea! So, if there are breeders out there who would like to help, perhaps you may want to consider giving him a gift certificate or credit for geckos? We all know the season is just getting started and the selection of geckos is low at this time, but this might be a good thing considering Tony's present health and limited space. Tony is not asking for anything, and "charity" is a tough word to swallow for many of us. But, if you would like to send money I would be happy to start a PayPal fund for him.
Again, I am very proud to be a member of the gecko community because of the inherent goodness in most of us!
