This is my girlfriend's first gecko, from everybody's favorite big chain store. Not my favorite place to buy animals, but he looked healthy and she instantly fell in love, so he followed us home. :main_rolleyes: Any idea what morph he is? I would guess high yellow, but I'm new to geckos so any input from the more experienced crowd is welcome. Is there any reasonable way to find out if he is het for anything? She wants to breed leos now but I am hesitant to just throw unknown lizards together and make mutts.

That is a really pretty little gecko! I would label this gecko as a normal, others might call it a high yellow, but personally i'd wait until it's a bit older to be able to tell...and there's something really crazy going on with those eyes...and her feet are a little dark, so it looks like she might have been a little cold at the pet store. Make sure her temps are okay too. Beautiful new addition!

His eyes are trippy, they look like the pics I've seen of Enigmas, but I can't imagine that one would be sitting at ********. Temps are good now, and he is a visible male.

I agree; jungle. The only real way to prove him out for hets would bed to test breed to various genetically proven females(blizzard, tremper, etc). Or you could just get a female jungle and continue with that line.

Wow, what a beautiful little guy! I got my first gecko out of a pet store too, I've been told he's pretty for a pet store pic up.

Is the kink a genetic trait? My personal inclination is not to breed him regardless since his genetics are unknown, but convincing my girlfriend is another matter. :D

Tail kinks have been genetic. But some may not be.

Main reason not to breed an unknown genetic leo is simply that, unknown genetics. He could be 6 times inbred (siblings inbred, take those babies breed them together, then breed their babies together, etc) and you wouldn't know. They could have multiple albinism hets. etc. There's a ton more reasons but it's late and I'm scatter brained.

My friend Kayla decided to breed her "rescued" leos from craigslist. 100% healthy leos, just came from pet stores. Most of her babies have some kind of deformity. Whether it's a tail kink, one small eye, hunch back, undeveloped tail, crooked spine, or an underbite. Now she's stuck with nearly 30 gentically deformed leos. With my mindset, I would never ever ever adopt those out, or even sell them. She's trying to sell them. If I bred a pair, incubated the eggs, then popped out a deformed leo, it's 100% my responsibility to care for it for the rest of it's life.

So just tell your girlfriend you'll buy her some really nice leos to breed from breeders on here. That'll make her happy. =D You can get some great deals from the breeders here. Even albinos.

I convinced her, this guy will be a pet only. I'm building a list in my head of morphs that I want to work with, and I'm sure I'll hit up some breeders here. We're moving in December, once we're settled in I will be building a rack and a collection. :D
