I was told that Stevie originally came from ******** but I got her from a family whose daughter had lost interest in leos so they were rehoming via craigslist. No problems thus far and I've had her since summer.

right lets get one thing straight your a bully! I have been keeping and breeding geckos for years!!! the 2 hatchlings i bought (my very first ones all those years ago) were of sound condition at the time that i bought them! fat, active, and eating. so there was no reason for me not to have bought them.
i did ALL the right reasurch before i got them as so i wasn't jumping in at the deep end blind, OK!!

after a week one dropped its tail and reduced feeding along with the other one. so being sooo small they lost weight quickly.
i returned to the pet store to talk to the manager only to find the others in the batch (4 in total not incl mine) were exactly the same!! (he said there wasnt a problem and there clearly was! because they all looked like tooth picks and dint move!

i took mine to the vet and was given meds to try and help but unfortunatly they both died.
only when the pet store ones died aswell (without treatment so they died befor mine) did the manager get in contact with the breeder who then told him that yes there was a proble and all batches at that time that had gone to other pet stores had the same problems. the breeders apologise and refunded the store and i was sent two new geckos 4weeks later who are happy and healthy and with me to date!

so i think you should stop thinking your gods gift to geckos and hold your tongue before having ago at people you dont know! not every ones a moron!
*rant over*

So you couldn't tell the animals were ill- but you're throwing the weight of the blame on the pet store for not being able to see the exact same thing you couldn't.

Why is it that it's fine for you to be oblivious, but evil for them to see the same geckos, with the same lack of visual symptoms and somehow they're the bad guy for selling them? They obviously looked and behaved healthy at the time of sale or you never would have bought them.

How do you justify blaming them for not seeing something you were incapable of seeing yourself? You're a hypocrite, plain and simple. Since you wanted to introduce the word- you're a moron too, ready to shoot off at the mouth at the pet store for selling you an animal that was sick but ignoring the fact that you were incapable of recognizing the problem yourself.

Asymptomatic and recently infected animals are easy to miss. You missed them and seem to feel that was perfectly alright. So why does it make them bad when they saw the exact same things (and failed to see them) that you did? You can't point the finger at them while claiming no fault of your own. Either neither party is to blame or you both are, equally.

That what I was pointing out. Your position that the pet store is bad because you bought an animal that looked perfectly healthy and turned out not to be is idiotic.

... just another know-nothing, pet industry bashing, bandwagon jumping parrot, regurgitating the same stale and asinine criticisms you have seen others levy, chewing on it like a mouth full of stale vomit, bitter and full of complaints but too damn dumb to recognize your own culpability. Spit it out, own your own faults and try thinking before you point your finger.

Four out of five of mine are pet store geckos. 2 from two different individually owned stores. The other two were from a huge chain and bought at the same time. One of those from the big chain was skinny, but she was in the same tank as my big PIGGIE eater, so it may be that she didn't have the chance to get any food. He's much older and bigger than her, so I don't think they should have been tank mates in the first place. It took her about a month to chase her own food, but now she's great and eating more than the other ladies.

Both of mine are pet store, never had any problems. If you get then as babies you have a chance to raise them up your way. Which helps.

I only bought two pet store geckos (got all my other ones, about 60, from breeders). One of them, Jessie, had flagellates and died a few weeks after I had bought her. The other one, Stripey, is still doing great and has had pretty and healthy babies so far. This pet store had a whole infected batch. I'm not buying from there any more. Sometimes, they're good, and sometimes, they aren't. They are kept on sand, too, and too many in one tank.

all four of mine have come from pet stores. The two I rescued from a lady who had gotten them for her six year old son (boy wouldn't even pay any attention to them). both are doing well though she got them from petco and I know they keep there hatchlings on sand. One I got from petsmart is doing well no problems and the other I got from a reptile shop, sadly he has coccidia so I don't know if he his going to live, he is on meds and refuses to eat, I have been feeding him slurry though. though he has quite an attitude.

I have had all of these happen to me. Our local pet store would let me adopt all of their sickly/dying or injured leos and i would attempt to nurse them back to health. Some made it some were too far gone. I currently have three petstore geckos that are in perfect health

I got my leo from a pet store, the one by my house is absolutely amazing. I even found out recently that they won't sell bearded dragons to people unless they come in with evidence (photographs) that they have everything ready for them (such as the uv lamp), or buy what the animal needs there. They are slightly less careful about whom they sell their leos and crested geckos to, however the animals are always in really good shape.

I am about a week into life with leo, a chain store critter and he seems to be doing well thus far. Eating like a machine and seems to have shed successfully yesterday.

I've had experiences both ways. I've had 2 die from 2 separate pet store care for them. But I also have several that are absolutely wonderful in everyway. I just have to keep my heart from over running my brain and be more concious about what things look like for the geckos in the store befor buying. :)

Yeah the petstore ones are a real gamble. I got one from petco and it had bloody poop that was runny. Took him back and in exchange for another one that couldn't keep food down and would barely move. I exchanged him for the super healthy one I have now (finally).

i just got my first 2 leo's from petco because they were having a sale on them for 14.99 each and i felt bad for the conditions they were in. hopefully they do well, they don't look too bad. there was one other one there that was missing toes and looks too far gone for any help and i felt terrible, but i did what i could by taking the other two.

Yeah some of them are just in scary condition. Like I said I had to take two back to petco before I finally got the chunky little girl I got now. Finally lucked out and she doesn't stop eating. She's like a vacuum. :main_laugh:
