Galaxy/Super Snow Eclipses!!!!

Ok, let's have an open and frank discussion on this. Who here believes that the marketing of the "Galaxies" is done with the sole intention of charging $1000 for a $200-$300 gecko?

I'll start this off by saying, "That's what I think!".

Who doesn't believe that? It is a sweet marketing ploy...he just got caught before the market was bamboozled by them. I am all abut a sexy SSE...but a Hypo SSE is by far sweeter than any "Galaxy" I have seen.

I think that there has been a major focus on creating a "new unique" morph lately that it has blinded many leopard gecko breeders. The focus seems to be more on trying to elevate one owns popularity and reputation over others. This blindness seems to make people think that they can pass a geckos genetics as something new, without proving it 100% without a doubt that it is. This is happening with breeders big and small, and not only with leopard geckos. Too many people are so eager to boost the focus on them in any circumstance that allows it.

I dont mind good marketing, but giving a name to a already existing morph is just not right. I honestly still dont know what the heck a aby is?????????? I have eclipses that are identical to the absy. But then again i also have bison mixed with leopard geckos, secret project called the Bull Sh*t...lol

In this business it is what you constantly produce that sets us apart from one another and in my eyes, just because some big names says "jump" (its new) others follow with "how high" (He said it, so it must be true). Like this so called blue belly gecko that some how fell off the radar lol. So I think it is a Marketing scheme to keep at the top of names trying to be avoided being faded out.

That is why I admire certain big names for doing a lot of line breeding. Things that just can't be questioned when sold.

If he or anyone else can sell a gecko like that for 1000.00 each my hats off to them. I just don't understand why he doesn't just call it as it is and market them as his own line bred Super Snow Eclipses. The only difference is that his are from Abyssinian lines which are as we all know are simply a line of Eclipse. He's even stated that they are a variation of the SSE on his FB page. I just don't understand how he justifies claiming a new GENETIC morph instead of claiming his line of a known combo morph that has been around for some time now.

Don't get me wrong though, they are some seriously nice gecko's! I just won't be paying any where near those prices anytime soon!! So to the Galaxy lovers..... more power to ya! :main_thumbsup:

In this case being 'ahead of the times' is really being 'behind the times'. Us old-timers in the hobby are dealing with an entirely new breed of buyers/keepers that no longer fall for marketing ploys and hype. In many cases, the new wave of herpers know a LOT more than we do about genetics in particular. Who is he trying to fool? How long can he keep laughing all the way to the bank? It's hard enough for newbies to try and sort out all the different names for the same morphs that breeders have come up with, much less spend a grand on an existing $200-300 gecko morph.

We are looking at EGO at it's finest. Why can't we just hang our egos up on the hat stand when we come in and simply focus on these beautiful, gentle creatures we all love? Is it because we love money and fame more? I honestly don't know anymore...

Why give added "airtime" to a supposed new morph that isn't? The only suitable description I can come up with for this particular situation is ... "HOGWASH"! :main_robin:
