With all the questions about pairings I feel it's a good idea to post a link for a genetics calculator. This will give you pairing outcomes, just input the genetic info:

For all of you with pairing questions, so I don't have to. :p

Yeah, but that site is very limited. Only so much you can do with it. There's ALOT of stuff that you can't look up with it. (genes/morphs that you cannot input)

i like that site but it doesn't have a lot of morphs, like jungle, aptor, shtct ect ect

Yes but Jungle & Patternless striped(in APTOR) & Super-Tangerine-Carrottail(In hypo). Are polygenic trait and you can't predict the outcome of these trait so they wont work on a genetic calculator. When breeding polygenic trait it's all in the luck of the draw.

How in the world are you so smart with this stuff?
Please tell me your secret.

I was going to point this out but you beat me to it. ;)

I suggest this be made a sticky, as I am sure the genetics questions will keep coming. :D

He went to school at "The Talbino/Balbino/Ralbino School of Morphology"! ;)

I just spit ginger ale on my monitor :laugh3: :main_laugh:

Back on topic - I do like that calculator, I've used it before and it helped me understand some basic combinations :main_yes:

soo...

I have been thinking about breeding leopards and I was wondering..(since im no good at morphs and stuff) If I bred my jungle albino and my SHTCB..What would come out of that>>

Normals with some Tangerine influence het Albino
Maybe some High Yellows het Albino
And some Normals with a cool pattern that is also Tangerine influenced het Albino

Albino jungle X [1C]Super hypo tangerine carrottail baldy = .

Normal HET Albino.
Aberrant HET Albino.
Hyper aberrant HET Albino.(Very possible but would depend on parents history).
[1C]Hypo HET Albino.
[1C]Hypo aberrant HET Albino.
[1C]Hypo hyper aberrant HET Albino.(Very possible but would depend on parents history).

A pecent of offspring will be influanced by tangerine.
A percent of hypo offspring will be influanced by tangerine, carrottail,Baldy.
A percent of hypo offspring will mature into Super hypo.
The offspring will be trait carriers for the Aberrant influance.
---------
Albino jungle X [2C]Super hypo tangerine carrottail baldy = .

[1C]Hypo HET Albino.
[1C]Hypo aberrant HET Albino.
[1C]Hypo hyper aberrant HET Albino.(Very possible but would depend on parents history).

Since I have a sticky .. yay .. I thought I would post and try to answer some questions / comments :)

Yes, it is very limited. Is not for beginner.
I thought it would be most benefical to beginners :-( Is the interface too complicated? Maybe I need to explain how to use it on the website, would that help?

Yeah, but that site is very limited. Only so much you can do with it. There's ALOT of stuff that you can't look up with it. (genes/morphs that you cannot input)

May I ask what is missing? I would be happy to include them.

The Genetics Calculator is in a beta stage and is not 100% complete, although I believe that most of the genetic components are covered. It's debatable if some are even missing. For example I have had emails from people asking why Abyssinians is missing from the recessive list, well all I can say is they look like eclipses to me and that is already covered.

I have gotten a number of emails asking why a SHTCT, or a Sunglow or an APTOR isn't in the morph list. Initially I didn't intend to include the morph list; as I thought most people would know the genetic make up for a specific morph. For example, I thought most people that are breeding a RAPTOR would just select the Recessive - Tremper Albino and Recessive Eclipse, although I was surprised this was not the case and many people were unaware of the combinations that make a RAPTOR. Obviously a RAPTOR should also be carrying the patternless stripe gene as well and be Tangerine. However, as Gazz has previously mentioned these are Polygenic traits and are not a given, and therefore not as predictable.

Regarding SHTCT the only given genetic component is Hypo, the rest are polygenic. So the super, tangerine, and the carrot tail are not a given. If you were to breed two Super Hypo carrot tail Baldies together, you would have a higher percentage of getting the results you desire. However, if you were to breed a SHTCT to a wild type, you may get some Tangerine influence, you may get come carrot tail, you may get reduced spotting, and so on.

The same for an APTOR, than only item you can select is Tremper Albino, the rest are Polygenic.

i like that site but it doesn't have a lot of morphs, like jungle, aptor, shtct ect ect

I hope I have explanined it above? Gazz feel free to chip in, you can explain it alot better than I can :)

Take the RAPTOR example.
The problem with RAPTOR is that people accept different things as RAPTORS. It has become common place to call a Banded Tremper Albino Eclipse a Banded RAPTOR - a Jungle Tremper Albino Eclipse a Jungle RAPTOR. The only real components that will be 100% if you breed two RAPTORS together will be Tremper Albino and Eclipse, you may or may not get a Patternless RAPTOR, you could get Jungles etc.
Having said that I am looking to include an option for Polygenic Traits in the new year. They will not be included in the percentages, however there will be a brief description as to what could occur.

Lets take Gazz's example from the post above.

for example:

Albino Jungle X Super Hypo Tangerine Carrot Tail Baldy

In the calculator you would select the following.

Male

Recessive
Tremper Albino

Polygenic Traits - (I plan to add these in the new year)
Jungle

Female

Dominant
Hypo

Polygenic Traits - (I plan to add these in the new year)
Super
Tangerine
Carrot Tail
Baldy

And the genetics calculator would throw out :-

50% Normal HET Tremper Albino
50% Hypo HET Tremper Albino

A percentage of offspring will be influenced by tangerine.
A percent of hypo offspring will be influenced by tangerine, carrot tail, Baldy.
A percent of hypo offspring will mature into Super hypo.
The offspring will be trait carriers for the Aberrant influence.

At the moment the calculator is only outputting percentages for the Genotype, in the new year I will also include Phenotype, 66% hets and a few more features.

I will at some point add explanations to the website (The community is welcome to contribute, I am all for that) - there are some genetic boffins on this website, your help would be appreciated.

The gecko calculator was originally designed by me, for me, I just thought other people may find it interesting and helpful. Although this is a sticky, please don't just rely on my calculator, read some books, ask loads of questions on this forum. We wouldn't want the threads to dry up :) A calculator can only go so far, and also remember it is percentages per egg and you may or may not hit what you are trying to create.

I hope I haven't confused anyone with my ramblings, I have difficulty conveying my ideas/thoughts into text that even I can understand.

Have fun with the calculator.

Andy
