I did not know whether to put this under ball python or other pythons, I was surfing youtube as you do when I came across this.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-TXm3SDwsM&feature=related

Its a ball python CROSSED WITH A BURMESE, I don't know how they managed it but if this thing is fertile the possibilities of having a piebald or some other super morph at the size of a burmese, it can open up many new doors, some people think its immorale to have crossed the two but surely its no different from creating other morphs, you have to bend the laws of nature to produce something amazing.
Which I believe they have done.
Back to you guys! let us know what you think! :main_thumbsup:

I don’t personally find hybridization as an immoral practice. But I do however think the animals should stay in the personal collection of the people who hatched them, or only sell them to people that know the full genetics of the animals. I’m not against hybrids but I don’t really want any in my collection, so being honest about them is the best way to go.

I saw another posting about this snake from a couple of months ago. It may have a balls markings but it has a burms attitude. I like balls because of their generally docile disposition. I say pass.

Hybridization between two species is MUCH different than creating morphs (breeding within a species). I'm kind of skeptical that they actually managed it- the two snakes are so different. Pretty animal, but if it is what they say, it's almost certainly sterile.

this is just wrong..... there is no reason to cross breed animals like this. if they come from the same place in the world, and have the natural potental to cross thats one thing. but this is rediculous. just like the womaXball. i hate it...

that snake is really pretty. I think that a lot of people who say they prefer balls over burms are missing the idea of hybridizing them. they arent breeding for the small size of a ball or the temperment. they are breeding this hybrid for the mix of pattern, color and large size. So even though its not like a ball python in the ways most people who like balls perfer. That doesnt mean that its a failure. =) I support this sort of stuff. Having said this, I would also like to say that I have no goals of my own for hybrid snakes or any other animal. Because I have a passion for something else. So even though I really like seeing things like that ball burmese cross, its not in any of my future goals.

I wasn't going to get into this whole thing but curiosity got the best of me. That is one gorgeous snake!

Though the ethics of inter-special breeding seems sketchy to me. I'm not one to judge, as I know absolutely nothing about it...

In one breeding, hybridization removes the result of hundreds of thousands of years of genetic drift. I never really approved of hybrids, even among subspecies. It's tempting to hybridize when the results are so beautiful, but is that the end justifying the means? Not sure, but I wouldn't hybridize. The only time I could consider it is if the hybrid ended up being sterile (as in mules), and no further genetic contamination could occur.

I am against the idea of hybridising animals. To purposefully cross two different species is too much like playing god for my liking. If people want to do it that is fine, but I would not go down that road.

I liken it to breeding a human to an orangutan or chimpanzee, you would be making something that was not meant to be

Breeding ball pythons for pattern and colour is a different kettle of fish. They are all one species, kinda like a white person having kids with a black person, or a oriental person having kids with an indian person etc.

I say keep breeding within a species, not between species....
