I'm a little worried...

WOW! Most leos weigh that or more when they hatch.

I don't know what to say. I'm so worried. The vet says he can recover but she doesn't believe what petco told me about it being 2 months old. She thinks 1 and 1/2 months old. Hopefully the meds will work and he can start gaining weight.

Holy shit. I just saw the pics you posted, and...holy shit. I've never seen a gecko even half that skinny. All of their geckos look like that? You need to do something.

With proper care, I think he'll recover. Just be very sure not to try to feed him large meals. Feed him what he'll take as often as he will, not all at once. Do you have any experience with leos and/or with animal rehabilitation?

They just got a new shipment and they are twice the size. The other 3 are gone, there is one left and you probably won't believe me but his body is the size of a wood pencil. I'm not even kidding. I'll snap a picture if he is still there.

This is my first gecko every, first rehabilitation, first everything. I'll take any and all advice there is to give, I want him to live. I just hate that my next paycheck is going to be crap. The most I'll be able to do is get some Repta Boost for him.

So far he still won't eat anything, but he's really freaked out right now due to the vet trip and the fact he jumped from the vets hand from about 7 inches up.

**Probably the best advice I could use is some advice on force feeding. He hasn't taken anything since the 21st and I will probably have to force the Repta Boost and meds on him. :(

Forcefeeding is a tricky business, because you're liable to harm him or stress him out way more if you're not careful. Generally I wouldn't advise it, but since it's been that long, it's obviously necessary. At this point, he's probably too weak to use any energy to catch anything. When you go feed him the Repta Boost (which is definitely a good idea), don't just try to force it down right away. Put a few drops on his nose and see what he does. He very well might just lick it off. If you can get him to take the recommended dose that way, that would be ideal. You might have to break it up into really tiny doses. Anything that's extremely malnourished shouldn't be forced to eat a lot, especially at once, as that can do even more damage than eating too little.

I had no plans to unless recommended due to my fear of hurting him. He's so fragile. :(

I just wanted to know how so that IF it came down to it, I could do it. He does lick things off his nose still, I've tried that with water to see if he would, and thankfully he did. My mom was kind enough (just called her) to provide me with the money to buy some Repta-Boost, I just can't do it until Monday. Hopefully that won't be to long. I'm sure he needs it now though... I might try to sell some stuff at a pawn shop tomorrow, I only need $12 or so.

I'm glad he's still pretty active. He definitely tried to get away while we weighed him and the vet checked him out. It was kinda funny watching her trying to keep him still. Hopefully a good sign?

Right now though he's being pretty dead. It looks like he tried to go somewhere and failed and went to sleep, or gave up, or both.

I'll have the de-Worming meds tomorrow. She had to get a different kind as the kind she had on hand didn't come in a small enough dosage for his weight. :(
She is also worried for the other geckos at Petco now. I made sure to tell her of the one pencil sized one still there, which by the way, he was soaking himself in the water bowl for about an hour....

Is there any other information I can provide? If there is anything at all, just tell me. I want him to live!!! :main_thumbsup:

The fact that he's still active at times is a good sign. If he was on his deathbed, he wouldn't be moving much at all. I've rehabilitated a lot of different animals, from cats to fawns to raccoons, but I don't have much experience with reptile rehabilitation. I mean, when I got my croc gecko, it was skinny and had a kink in its tail from being malnourished, but nothing quite like what you've got. So I don't really have a whole lot of advice to give except good husbandry and the supplements. Just be sure to get the Repta-Boost as soon as you possibly can. Like, as immediately as it gets.

This may have already been covered, but are your temps okay? If they're too low, raising them will help. Also, does he have some way to warm his belly? That's required for them to digest their food.

That's so cool. :D Yay for saving animals! :D

My temps are good, I keep a very close eye on them. :3 90s on the hot side, 78-80s on the cool. <3 His humid hide is around 94-96.

There is a UTH, it is uncontrolled for now but there will be a thermostat by soon. Hopefully next week.

The vet was actually surprised by my set up and was happy he had a big tank to play in. If you want I can take a picture for you?

Sure, I'd love to see. :) Sounds like you've got things done well. A lot of first time leo owners don't have their temps high enough and don't really have all the stuff they need, so it's really nice to know someone's done things right! And that'll definitely got a very long way in helping your little guy recover.

The calcium cap is hiding under that leafy plant in the middle.

And here are his current pics, the substrate is slate on the hot and repti carpet on the cold. He has never pooped on the cold side so I kept the carpet.
The blue background is just some craft foam I happened to have.

There is him in one picture getting some water. <3

I do have a 20 watt bulb I use for daylight since the only window in my apartment is above a A/C.

HE ATE A CRICKET!!!
I had to cut most of its legs but he ended up eating it!!!!!!!

Make sure your temperature at the surface of the tile is around 90 degrees. Don't buy any more geckos from pet stores they don't supplement their diet. Dietary deficiencies lead to health issues down the line. Are you supplementing with calcium and vitamins by the way?

Lol, I just said the temps and such was correct a few posts up. I've dusted with Repashy and such. No worries. <3 I do not have a thermostat but its coming. I'm waiting for it to arrive and I do keep close eyes on the temps. :main_thumbsup:

YAY! And it's a very nice setup. The only thing I could suggest is maybe some more hides just to make him feel more secure. The toilet paper rolls are okay, but leos in the wild hide in rocks, so something like that would be good. You can make one with some rocks you find wherever (after you clean them) and some aquarium sealant.

Thank you! I'm still working on making more hides. The one that is in there is one I made actually, using non toxic air dry clay. :D

Its still just a matter of money, I'm so broke. :bigcry:
I figured the TP tubes would work for now until I could make some more.

I understand. I'm so broke right now too. When I do get money, it all goes straight to my pets. I don't see any of it. XD

I think I'm starting to know how you feel. XD

It doesn't help we had inventory so I didn't get as many hours and it sucks. :bigcry:

It'll be ok though, I'll get everything together. I don't have much more to get, just some hides, some more calcium, crickets, and silicone. <3

Actually with the Repashy Calcium Plus they don't need extra supplements. Allen Repashy says not to give additional calcium if all of the feeders are dusted with Repashy.

I leave some in there anyways just in case. I've never seen him touch it so I guess repashy guy is right. Lol
Better safe than sorry right?

I honestly have no idea if a gecko can OD itself on supplements. XD

~Maggot

Well from what I've read geckos won't lick calcium unless they feel they need it, its like an instinct or something. I dunno for sure, I'm by no means an expert. XD

If anything hin not touching maybe means the Repashy is doing its job?
