Mealworm Shortage

I have been informed by my supplier there is a mealworm shortage. Is anyone else having trouble buying Mealworms in bulk?

I have not heard that.. I have been getting mine from Bassetts for 10 years.

Yes, I looked at bassets a couple of days ago and there was a note saying due to a shortage there will be no bulk orders. I see now they are listing them by quantities of 500.

EEK. That sucks.. Haha. I just put in an order over the phone this past wednesday and.. they didn't say anything about it. Weird.

Yeah I've in that dilema now too. So I tried another supplier and they won't accept new customers now so then I went back and called my original supplier and they can send me 2k but not til late this week. My geckos are a little hungry.

I have been having a heck of a time with getting mealworms! Both Rainbow and Sunshine were completely out for awhile, ReptileFood.com only has once size, American Cricket Ranch has only mediums and is limiting orders to 3,000, and Cricket Factory is completely out of supply.

Apparently, there was some sort of catastrophe that cause eggs not to hatch, and it may last for the entire season. I'd hate to go back to feeding crickets!

I have found several websites out of Mealworms - Sunshine is closed right now so my search continues. I am looking for about 10,000. Thank you David and Kristi for your responses.

I just placed an order with Sunshine, and it said that due to the shortage, they're not accepting new customers. Thankfully, I've been a customer for the last year, so I hope I get my worms!!!!

I also just got 1,000 superworms that I'm going to try feeding to the adults - I want to avoid feeding crickets to my leos, if at all possible. :main_huh:

We can't get any mealies at all! We are with armstrong and they are not selling mealies. Good thing I have a 700+ colony of roaches now.

I searched all last week to find mealies online and ran into the same problem.
I only needed about 2,000 so I went to PetCo cuz they sell 500 for $6.49 and they had plenty.

NOt meaning to Hijack but if I saw that Petco has mealies but I want to breed them. Will they be ok after they warm up?

yeah the cold just puts them in hibernation .

It would probably be better to get live ones tho .

i was wondering why my order wasnt going thru at sunshine, i only wanted about 200 but never received a reply for my order

I just got 5000 from sunshine about 2 weeks ago. I had no idea they had a shortage! I guess I'll be spending a small fortune to get them from a reptile store. I hope they have more soon.
