Wow, I just did an order last week from Sunshine and she didn't mention anything to me. They are still having a problem with waxies-food shortage for them, I don't know if it's just Sunshine or not.
This is cruddy. I got larger mealies and not as many and I didn't know if my guys would eat them and I'm going to have to order more. I have a ton of tiny ones since I just started breeding them, but can't use them.
Ugh, crickets.

I just received my order from sunshine yesterday (2000) and they never said anything about being low on them. They have been out of waxworms for awhile now. So have some local reptile stores.

Sunshine is not taking any new customers, and are limiting existing customers to 20,000 at a time. They said it was for the next few weeks.........hopefully, the situation will resolve soon. *fingers crossed*

I ordered from sunshine today, and have been a existing customer, and they are now limiting to 5000/week for a week or 2 :{

I just ordered 60,000 on Tuesday and they arrived today. They didn't say anything about limits when I ordered.

Geeze 5000 a week, that's not even worth me ordering. I'll just get crickets if that's the case. :main_no:

In canada this is not happening. Why not use superworms, me personally would perfer to use them over crickets. I breed crickets and all but my animals only get them once a week.

I think Sunshine is trying to accomodate all of their regular customers by limiting them - but not so much that their animals will starve. I'd been ordering 10,000 a week for a long time and last week upped it to 20,000 (my usual summer order). I am back on 10,000/week for the time being - but that still works fine for me. They are really trying to accomodate each breeder to the level that they need to take care of their animals - without having some people buy 2 weeks worth and then not having enough for others. So, it seems that weekly limits are different for everyone depending on past ordering experience. A very smart solution, in my opinion.

My mealworms arrived today and look beautiful. Although now the ants have found my crickets and I didn't order any new ones. :(

Maybe it has something to do with everyone deciding to breed leos this year... like everyone I know is seriously breeding. Hopefully the leopard gecko doesn't end up the next Green Iguana

No worries, it won't... I've been doing this for a long time now, and once -some- of the newer people breeding leos realize that to do it right takes a lot of time (forget about having a social life, especially if you have a family AND a large collection!) and money, you will see them selling out prontisimo. Then of course there are those that begin to realize it's a lot harder to sell geckos than they thought it would be and that they aren't going to get rich doing this. Those types normally last one breeding season, sometimes two. :D

Ah, so they were limiting me to my existing amount that I usually order............not just 20,000. *smacks self* In any case, I'm super happy I got worms!! Who can say THAT that in a crowd at a store and not have people look at you funny?!!?! :main_laugh:

The suggestion to use supers was a good one, or three week old crickets (they don't chirp and a leopard 1-2 weeks old can eat them). It is pretty easy to breed supers and mealworms.

Bassett's did call me me about this, I upped my super and three week old cricket order. And I'll focus on breeding supers and mealworms. You could not pay me to breed crickets, what a mess! :p

LOL! :main_laugh:

In any case, I'm glad that the shortage doesn't look as crazy now as it seemed at first. Hopefully this will all be sorted out sooner than later. :)

None of the normal places I order my mealworms from have any. I just placed an order for 2,000 mealworms and 75 superworms for just over $30.00 shipped. Untill they arrive I hope I can find some at some of the chain stores grrrrrrrrrr.

I just went to the pet store today, and the reptile dude said there was shortage and the breeder (Flucker's) are out of meal worms for a while due to the shortage. Darn it! Gladly they had three 100 counts left. Phew! :)

Yah, I went to Petco... They said they are having a hard time getting meal worms in too. Thankfully they have plenty of large mealworms, but no small for the babies.

You know those of you who are getting mealworms and wanting to breed your own might be wise to quarentine your bugs from your existing mealworm stocks.

Just my humble opinion of what little I know about biology and how a lot of people/industries raise animals.
