This is my very first attempt at creating a incubator and I think it did alright. This is made from a coke cola refridgerator. My dad works at Coke Cola and I got this refridgerator for free. If you have a local coke cola distributor around you then you might call and ask if they have any for sale. They usually have many that are broke and they don't plan to fix. I could of got some that had double doors or ones that were 5 foot tall.
Heres a view of the top. We left the light that was already in it and it works great at illuminating everything. There is 15 inches of heat tape on the top with a AC powered circulation fan and 30 inches of heat tape on the bottom.
Heres the AC power circulation fan. I created some vents to point the air flow forward and to keep the air from hitting the containers and heat tape directly. It works great at circulating the air and keeping the temps consistant throughout. I had to install it with some spacer to allow airflow to come in from the back. I contemplated many ways of doing it but this is what I went with.
Heres a pic of the shelves. It hold anywhere from 9-12 containers, 9 being comfortable and 12 being placed right beside each other. A total of 27 to 36 containers can fit in the incubator. I can add another shelf if I need to to hold another 9-12 containers.
This is the bottom of the incubator. I have water bottles in there to keep the temps from fluctuating too much. The incubator keeps good consistant temps but when opening the door it fluctuates more then I want. The water bottles allow the temps to stable better after the door is opened and closed.
This incubator is way more then I need but why not have more room to be prepared for the future. Over all including the herpstat, heat tape, fan, switches for lights and fan, and other materials; it costs me around $150 give or take a few buck. The temps are about the same on each shelf, with-in a tenth of a degree or two from my 85.5 setting. Over high and low temps are reading from 84.9 to 85.5 on my thermometer and 85.2 to 85.7 on the herpstat and thats over all on each shelf. I only have one clutch in there right now and its more then likely infertiles. They were soft and squishy but still incubating them just incase. Thanks for looking! :main_thumbsup:
