Negative posts!

I get so tired of reading negative posts! For instance, a GF member will post a question about something, and there will be several constructive replies. Then someone will come along and post a negative reply that is not constructive at all! It's like the sole purpose of the post was to make the someone feel bad. It's perfectly fine to disagree with someone, or post a differing opinion, but do it in a respectful manner!

Kelli, I share your frustration. It's starting to seem like many are forgetting that they weren't born knowing everything about geckos and had to learn just like everyone else did. The whole purpose of this website is to share information, and there's a lot of very experienced gecko keepers here that are a wealth of information for the new folks. Sure, we may get tired of having the same questions asked over and over again, but let's all remember that it's the new people that will be the future in this hobby!

Thank you so much for posting this, Kelli. I've been wanting to say something but didn't know how to go about it properly. I've been avoiding the site quite a while because of such posts.

Definitely not good for the morale around here. :main_no:

It's like I have to remind my kindergartners all the time; If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. LOL It's pretty annoying to go to work and referee little kids with their attitudes but it's really a drag to have to deal with the same thing here. I guess we all need to remember to think about how our posts will make others feel.

I totally agree.. I havn't been on here for a few weeks now in part because I'm busy but the other reason is that when I ask a question I get a few honest answers from some really experienced and lovely people but then you have the one or two that are like "your doing everything wrong your gecko is going to DIE because your just plain WRONG. I do it this way, which is the right way." Ugh that is so annoying. Luckily half the time I just skip right over those posts but it still annoys me to read and makes me cringe.

I agree with Ken. This forum really does stay mostly positive, IMHO. But I also agree with Kelli - the negative posts really can tear people down in a heartbeat. :( It's truly a shame that some folks feel they can't even post for fear of getting someone saying something really poopy. :main_no:

I will have to admit that I have strayed sometimes when it comes to the sand debate, but I have realized that its silly to debate over something that most people already have there minds made up about. I had to step back and remember how much help I needed when I started out, and I am now trying to pass what I learned onto others.

Pessimists just need to remember that just by showing up here and posting that people, even inexperienced owners, are taking more responsibility for their animals than a large majority of the pet owners out there.

I haven't been here for very long but so far it's been a tremendously positive experience. I thank Paul Allen from www.brightalbino.com for introducing me to it when I bought a gecko from him in January! Even when you think you know it all, there's always something more to learn.

I have been seeing a lot of negativity lately. It's just a part of any community growing larger, but there will always be trolls. Although I do agree the positive outweighs the negative. It's one of the reasons this is my favorite forums. :)

This is VERY true! I think what some people need to learn is patience, tact, and diplomacy... apparently some 'know-it-alls' have yet to learn that.

Everyone needs to quit pointing fingers at me!!!! LMAO...hahaha. sorry had to lighten the mood up a bit.

I agree for the most part with the OP. But i'm also a firm believer that not everyone should have the answers given on a silver platter. There is a better feeling of acomplishment when you figure things out on your own. Pointing someone in the right direction is always great but for the most part i just want people to use their brains.

it's a seriously sad state that people can just come here and be like i have X morph and Y morph what am i going to get. I think those are poopy post. Those post should be ignored, due to the fact that we are just making those people lazy and using the knowledge that other people have worked hard to gain.

i don't want this post to appear negative but it's the truth. We want to educate and stimulate people out there about the great hobby that we all keep. No reason for people to be lazy and not try to figure out genetics if they are wanting to breed.

I agree with everything you said; my only beef is with people being flat out disrespectful and rude. It just gets old after awhile. :main_yes:

The negativity is extremely annoying. It's also very predictable (same people, same comments), which makes it a little easier for me to stomach.
I hate that newer hobbyist have to encounter this.

Closely related, and one thing that I do find VERY unfortunate is that several well known breeders choose to stay away from this forum (and other forums) because of the negative responses they typically get when they do share information or bring new projects to the community. It's one thing to disagree with someone or to politely share your opinion...but it another to completely trash someones hard work and passion. What breeder would want to put up with that?! I don't know if it's jealousy or if people just want to create controversy...but as a result we're missing out on some great input and involvement from some very cutting edge folks.
