Breeding leos 2 years, breeding other geckos: Cresties, gargs, bibrons, day geckos, tokays ect for 8-10 years. I don't know if you mean leos or all geckos. And if were talking about tortoises/turtles 12-14 years.

I have owned atleast one kind of gecko for over 20 years on and off, but will be the first to admit, that I sucked at it most of that time :main_yes: The info available to me was limited as was my thirst for knowledge in my younger years, though I did keep most alive for a good deal of time and loved them dearly. I have owned reptiles from little WC med geckos, right up to 5 foot monitors and everything in between. From WC native snakes up to cutting edge boids and SHHHH even a bushmaster and indigo snake :main_lipsrsealed:

I feel fairly confident in my ability to keep happy/ healthy reptiles in general, but feel next year I will be even better at it.

I had my first geckos when I was 13 or 14, but I didn't vote since there's no applicable option.

This poll is a little silly. I have 30 plus years experience in keeping geckos. I got my first gecko when I was 3.
That does not make me a good keeper.

Now as far as real experience, learning as much as possible about the species, their care and requirements and successfully keeping them, that is an on going process that started about 8 years ago and I hope it never ends.

To me it does not matter how much experience you have, it is more important how much you are willing to learn. This hobby is ever evolving, what was common and acceptable just a few years ago is no longer the norm. I am glad that I can offer my experiences for others to hopefully learn from.

Most of the information available about keeping geckos is opinion not scientific fact.
No one persons word is the gospel. Read as much information as you have available and decide for yourself what works best for you and your animal.

Just my humble opinion.
Very well said! This year is twenty for me but I still learn from newbies all the time.

A very interesting poll!!
I was breeding standard-guppies & siamnese fighting fish since my early childhood, and take part in the european show-contests.
I'm in leopard gecko breeding for 8 years now- and I hope it will be many years more ;).
This is so much fun to me, and you can learn something new almost every day..

2 weeks...I'm like a spounge. Learning more and more everyday.

Decided on a leo because it would be easy and a good beginners intro into keeping reptiles. I'm getting more and more hooked by some of the fascinating morphs/variations and behavioral "quirks" exhibited by these little guys.

This forum has been an immense help to getting started, thanks.

We have only had Leopards for a little under 2 years but I have always loved lizards ( I can't say reptiles because I do not have a great love for snakes....I like things with legs). When I was little I always had tanks of salamanders and skinks that I caught from the parks. From there I went onto Anoles. I am sure that our anoles did not get the proper care but they did seem very happy and we ( by pure DUMB luck hatched out several clutches of eggs). I then got my first iguana unexpectedly and had to start gathering up as much information as I could on how to take care of her properly. We then added our chameleon ( adopted) to the family then a Bearded dragon......then we got our first little joy- Leo. We were hooked on the little guys. I hope to be able to come back in 30 years and say that I am still enjoying my little ones( not the ones I have now probably but their grand -hatchlins)!!!!!

I have no idea. I've had something since I was a kid. It takes me about 6-10 years to really master the care of a species though in my opinion. There's only one really I'd say I've mastered and 3 I'm close with.

November 2006 is when I picked up our first Crested. Since them I've added 1.0 crested, 0.2 female leopards and 0.1 Cornsnake.

Believe it or not, I bred my first pair of gaboons long before I got into leos...LOL

As in gaboon vipers?? Like those fat guys you see on Animal Planet that can kill 10,000 million people with 1 cc of venom??

Wow, Gregg, you're a brave man. :main_thumbsup:
