As in gaboon vipers?? Like those fat guys you see on Animal Planet that can kill 10,000 million people with 1 cc of venom??

Wow, Gregg, you're a brave man. :main_thumbsup:

Not really-Gregg put's on this Kevlar body suit before entering the room with them...
:D

JK-actually I'm EXTREMELY envious of Gregg's gaboon collection. I've worked with them myself-with a lot of respect for their deceptive speed, and proper venomous caging, they can be kept and handled safely.

I've been keeping geckos since 2003!! :D
I also remember many of these users from KS when I first started!

I'm hoping to start breeding soon, but I still need a male to quarantine and an incubator. Hehehe.

About 2 weeks. That makes me a novice. Researched for a while about leos and cresteds, opted for the leo, kind of kick myself for not going with a crested but happy all the same :)

I've had geckos for 4 months, but have been researching them for 6 months. I am still learning, of course, but I know the basics.

I just realized this- I'm going onto my second year! I started sometime with Leos and geckos in general around June last year, but if you count research, then I'm on my 4th year(yup-when I was 9, I was already thinking of getting a Leo:main_rolleyes: ). In the short amount of time, I can say that I'm probably going to keep these for a while;)

I agree 100% with Jeremy, I to had geckos when I was 3, and the only real way to be a good keeper is to keep and learn what works best for you as almost all material is opinion as to what has worked for the writer, pretty much whats good for the goose is not always good for the gander which is the case as things can vary greatly from me in Utah and say Jeremy in chicago as temps can vary and so on which means we must do different ways to go about heating, so the best way to do it is learn all you can, ask questions, and except answers because even though you think you know something you really may not, and you should always keep an open mind even if your ways are different it never hurts to learn and know all you can to help you figure out the best ways for you for keeping these incredible creatures, just my opinion as well, so time keeping has no validity on how well you are at keeping it all comes down to what you've learn to best take care of these or any other animals, and thats what it comes down to, plus hands on experiance dont hurt but every thing you learn is whats gonna make or break you.

This poll is a little silly. I have 30 plus years experience in keeping geckos. I got my first gecko when I was 3.
That does not make me a good keeper.

Now as far as real experience, learning as much as possible about the species, their care and requirements and successfully keeping them, that is an on going process that started about 8 years ago and I hope it never ends.

To me it does not matter how much experience you have, it is more important how much you are willing to learn. This hobby is ever evolving, what was common and acceptable just a few years ago is no longer the norm. I am glad that I can offer my experiences for others to hopefully learn from.

Most of the information available about keeping geckos is opinion not scientific fact.
No one persons word is the gospel. Read as much information as you have available and decide for yourself what works best for you and your animal.

Just my humble opinion.

Got my first geckos about 12 years ago from a pet store.
I had a hell of a time figuring out how to care for them
since the store didn't know, and none of us had pc's, so no
internet.
I had them on sand and a overhead lamp until I realized the
sand was desiccating their feet and getting in their eyes.
So, I didn't have to read somewhere not to use sand, it was
a obvious observation.
No one told me about a moist hide either.
I had to figure that one out on my own when I saw they where
not shedding.
I think I started my misting, then wet paper towels (kept drying
up) than little boxes stuffed with wet towels (much better)! :)
It was trial and error until I finally saw my first gecko book, which
said to use loose sand (and other bad advise)!! :main_laugh:
