Has anyone else ever cried their eyes out over the loss of a big hunk of metal, plastic and rubber? I'm still not sure if I am so sad because of the fact that it was a great car, or if my sadness has more to do with the symbolism of the thing.

Oh some lady that could barely speak English and had no drivers license decided to ignore the fact that you are supposed to yield on a green light when turning left. Luckily the car she was driving had full coverage insurance and they will be paying my car off plus a little extra. They are also covering all of our medical expenses.

Here's one of my very sore legs. Our airgbags didn't deploy for whatever reason so we both got some pretty bad contusions and I got a serious case of whiplash. My husband had surgery today to repair his detached retina, which was caused in part by the accident. It was mighty scary folks!

Yikes, Kelli! Amazing that an unlicensed driver was driving an insured car. So sorry about the car :( but I'm happy that you're ok - ish. Just saw that pic - OUCH!! (((hugs))) Poor Steve, too! I hope his eye & your neck heal quickly!

I have cried for a car before. ((HUGs)) Glad you weren't hurt worse.

FWIW: arnica ointment works wonders on bruises. Also they make it in pill form (it is homeopathy) that you can take after something like this and it will help.

The surgery went really well. The killer part of it is Steve has to stay face down (as in face down in bed or sitting with head in a nodding position) all the time except for one hour a day. They injected some sort of gas into the eye, and the pressure from the gas will eventually aid in repairing the detachment, but in order for it to work he has to keep his head down all the time for the next few days. However the other option is going blind in that eye, so we don't have much of a choice.

Oh, and the shoes are Vans! ;-)

OOPS! Should have looked a bit closer!

Poor Steve with his eye! :( I couldn't imagine that type of surgery... i'm squeamish with anything that has to do with eyes... mannn...

Well I'm glad to see that you guys are relatively ok.

My dad underwent surgery for the same thing about a year and a half ago. One day his eye was bothering him and was itchy and what not. Didn't think anything of it. Thought it was allergies or an infection, or maybe he touched something and then touched his eye which made it irritated. That went on for a few days and then it started to go blurry. He went to the optometrist and they told him his retina was splitting. He scheduled surgery right away.

I was up here in college so I was just old this, but he wore an eye patch for about 2-3 months and had to do that whole ordeal about sleeping face down and pretty much being in bed all day. My dad's a pretty active guy so it was hard on him. Surgery went pretty well except he had developed some catalysts, so he had to get those removed also.

It's now been about, I want to say, a year since he's been all patched up and he's doing great. He never got 20/20 sight in his eye (not that he had it that good to begin with), but wears reading glasses whenever it bothers him. He's been doing fine. It was just a drawn out process.

That being said, I hope everything goes well for you guys and you get better soon. I also hope you get to choose out a new car you might've been eyeing for a while- and of course you get to keep that snazzy license plate.

I'm glad that you'll both recover in time. I've had an air bag blow up in my face. From my experience that's not really fun either. In my case, had the air bag not deployed I would have been better off. I spent Easter a few years back in a hallway at a nearby hospital. I also have a friend who lost his eyesight to an airbag prior to my accident. You may be better off that the airbags didn't get you. Again, I'm glad you're both safe and on the road to recovery.
