Tail Kinks frowned upon?

I was just wondering, I know that it's not recommended to breed an enigma who has severe enigma issues, like star gazing, and spinning, etc. But How about breeding a very pretty gecko with a tail kink...is that frowned upon? Is that something that is geneticly passed on?

in my optinon animals with tail kinks should not be bred (unless you know for a fact it got hurt and that is what caused the kink). in leopard geckos tail kinks are GENERALLY genetic. i wouldnt want to risk it if you didnt know.

I have had several aptors hatch without tail kinks. One aptor hatchling had a kinked tail.Obviously it is not genetic but instead maybe afreak thing. Both parents have no kinked tail.Correct me if I'm wrong but this is not genetic right?

We dont know for sure, Just because you only got one dosent mean its not genetic. It may be caused by temp flucuations in the incubator.

Makes me think of Siamese cats and there tail kinks. In show cats its looked down upon. As for history legend it was said the Siamese cat had a tail kink to hold the queens arm bands while she bathed. Would be interesting for some actual studies to be done on gecko tail kinks.

depends on if you mean a tail kink, or tiny little barely notciable bump near the end of the tail. the latter would probably be okay. but a severe tail kink you may wanna avoid breeding.
But up to you. as alot of people have said, its unknown if its genetic, so you may get normal tails on your hatchlings.

It is a barely noticable bump near the end of her tail, the breeder stated she did not hatch that way, and it developed after first few sheds?

Before you go criticizing "us people," perhaps you should read up a bit on the history of leopard geckos and what a tail kink really is, especially in Murphy’s Patternless. I suggest you reconsider your position against some of the most renowned breeders in this industry. Many of us have worked quite hard to purify the leopard gecko species. That includes not breeding animals with physical deformities, such as tail kinks, and not breeding hindered Enigmas. It is apparent that you have no intention or care to produce high quality animals, and that's just fine. But please do not criticize us who believe in quality over quantity and good health and genetics over looks.

I am not criticizing. I am criticizing people who breed enigmas.

But i just dont see how a tail kink is detrimental to the gecko.
A gecko with a tail kink can be healthy and happy can it not?

My gecko has a slight tail kink and eats normally, walks normally, has a very heatlhy appetite.

I dont understand why the tail kink is looked at as a end all of the gecko.
Help me understand.

Do you cull geckos with a tail kink?

can you provide me with some reading material?
I just dont understand the impact of breeding a tail kinked gecko

im very open minded and have very open ears and you could possibly convince me not to breed it - but for now - i dont see why thats not a good idea

i read the first page - didnt realize there was more - im currently reading it.

have tail kinked geckos shown any signs of anything detrimental?
surely early enigma breeders saw signs of enigma syndrome?

do genetically tail kinked geckos have a problem that im unaware of?

sorry for being seemingly rude before - i wasnt trying to.

is there a tail kinked gecko syndrome? ive been trying to google it but cant find anything about it

A tail kink is an unnatural physical mutation and a sign that there is something genetically and possibly internally wrong with a gecko. If you're going to go by the "happy and healthy" arguement, then I suppose you would believe that my 27g, year and a half old dwarf leo who can not feed herself and has joint deformities should be bred. She is happy and healthy right? She's real pretty too. So we should ignore the obvious sign that there is a significant problem in the gene makeup and breed her anyways, right? Who cares if we mud up the already dirty leopard gecko gene pool. Please, before you make such bold assertions, do some research first. If you tried for even 30 seconds to find a statement on leopard gecko tail kinks, you would know why respectable breeders refuse to cross them into their lines.

It was also believed that cats that had tail kinks held the spirit of a reincarnated pharoah. Cats that had that kink were treated like the royalty who's spirits their bodies were believed to be harboring.

Sorry for the off track...
