What should I do...?

We've just got ourselves a GORGEOUS phantom female (I'll post pictures later), and I was wondering what I should get (male wise) to cross her with, I was thinking a Super Snow. :) Any suggestions?

A Super Snow is a bad suggestion. TUG snows like Phantoms and Mack Snows are different strains of snow, like Tremper and Rainwater are different strains of albino. It's kind of sad everyone is so against mixing albinos, but no one thinks twice about mixing snows.

I would probably get another TUG snow, Phantom, or a Tremper Albino.

I think that comparing breeding Mack Snows to TUG snows it similiar to breeding different strains of albinos but not close enough to compare them to each other. The only negative reason that breeding a TUG snow to a Mack Snow is that you don't know what strain of Snow they are when they hatch. I haven't heard of anything bad happening with the genetics if crossed.

Hey Justin, that is the very same reason why the majority of breeders do not breed the different strains of albino together...

Nothing bad will happen genetically if the albinos are crossed the same as if the snows are crossed... What does happen with breeding different strains of albino and snows together is it causes confusion and there is no telling what the exact genetics of the animals produced are until you prove it out by breeding it... Even after breeding it the will still be doubt in it full genetic make up...

I'm not saying that the comparison is completly wrong but that with the mixing of snows compared to albinos there are less complications. Your not going to get defective geckos that have health issues by crossing Mack to TUG plus not knowing exaclty what the genetics are. Both the Mack Snow and TUG snow are line bred and can work together without any defects unlike mixing the different albino strains.

I would rather bred a Mack to a Mack or a TUG to a TUG just to keep the outcomes straight.

I just don't think it is unethical compared to breeding different albino strains to each other and that why I think the comparison isn't really the same.

No, there is no health risks with crossing albino strains, it just makes for a messy gecko. It's hard to determine what strain they are, etc. I've talked to Craig at TUG and we're looking at getting a Phantom male to pair with our lovely Phantom girl.

This. Exactly this.

It would be a real PITA to take at least two seasons to prove out every questionable female you get and one season for every male. It's a matter of knowing what you have. No actual health impact would likely occur.

Well for some reason I thought I have read that there were health issues too but I guess that I was wrong. Not the first time that I was wrong thats for sure.

It is wierd tho that Mack Snow x TUG snow only produces a small percentage of Super Snows compared to Mack x Mack. You wonder what really going on with the genetics. Could it be that the dominate genetics of the TUG and the co-dominate genetics of the Mack mixing creates a gecko that is similiar to a Super Snow but not one? Could the TUG snow genetics mix with the Mack to create a mack that lacks all yellow? The TUG is a line bred WC that lacks yellow so it can't be a true super snow. Just wondering I guess!

Sorry for jacking your thread now! LOL! Saw you got some Phantoms so it looks like you made up your mind for sure. Good Luck with them.

Thanks Justin! I appreciate it! The phantoms, sunglow, and tug snow will be here this week, and I'm very excited.

I wish there was a Super form like the Mack, in the TUG; I just LOVE that look.
