i use paper towel because when im doing daily maintenence i can see like yellow (pee) spots and can remove and clean and change the paper towel...i think if you use cocoa fiber you cant see if they used the bathroom and they just sit in it...and i would think changing out cocoa fiber every/other day would get costy...just my opinion

I use a no-name brand of coir that I get at a local hydroponics store. Same thing as bed-a-beast at less then half the price.

I use paper towels in my male hides and forest moss in my female hides. The forest moss female hides also double as lay boxes in breeding season.

I really like the forest moss. Holds moisture for a few days and doesn't mold. I change it out when it stops smelling nice and earthy..lol Usually after a month or so.

Sphagnum moss, started with paper towels though. Mine seem to like the moss better they bury themselves in in it.

I use Spag moss. I always buy from local garden store like a few people have already stated. Nothing agaisnt pet shops but they mark up the price on their "reptile moss". I've thought about trying coco fiber for my egg laying females next year just to try, but so far the moss has worked great!

Can I ask if the moss is to be spread under hide or in a cluster off to the side? I'm guessing spread out under?

For me, spread out underneath, I use a butter conainer though, so i put the cocofiber(i belive moss would be used the same) on the lid and then put the container on top of it. Easier to remove the fiber thatway.

Is peat moss an Ok material to use for a leopard gecko, and can you just put it on one side of a hide and mist it with water? That's what a friend said to do, but there's so many differing opinions out there it's hard to figure out what is best to do. I was also wondering if it was possible for the leopard gecko to eat the moss accidentally and if there would be any harm in that?

Right now it's just a bit I piled up on one side of a hide, misted with dechlorinated water (we have city water).

Sphagnum Moss from Zoo Med. My girl loves it. I plan on finding it cheaper elsewhere though. I wouldn't use damp coco fiber. I use it for my tortoise & when it's really damp it just sticks to him like crazy. So I know if my Leo was to rest her head in like she does with the moss there is an extremely great risk she's going to pick it up on the bottom of her jaw and lick it to get it off and end up swallowing it.
