Whats the longest you have lost a gecko for?

Just wondered about what the longest time is people have lost gecko's for before they turned up?

Ours is 2 weeks.... eep. We went on vacation to the beach and made sure all of our gecko's had food and water, etc etc. We came home 4 days later to find houdini missing.

It was a new mini shelf/rack setup we built and she managed to climb onto one hide, drag herself up the edge and then must of crawled or fell out the side. We looked everywhere for like 4 days and set up hides hoping to find her.

Well 2 weeks later bf saw movement near the fireplace and sure enough there she was. She looked exactly the same, but the amount of escapee crickets we have she probably still ate like normal gobbling them all up from the carpet lol.

Anyway im just curious as to you guy's stories. Silly gecko's and their amazing ability to ninja their way out of anything lol.

So far houdini is our only escape though :)

I've only actually lost a gecko once, and I don't know how long she was gone for. My guess is only a few hours.

Right after we rescued Akira, my sister mistakenly assumed that since she had no sticky pads she couldn't climb up the top of her 20L. She did. Up and out. And fell five feet to the floor, scurried under my bedroom door, down the hall, into the bathroom...where my brother found her hiding behind the trash can. No one even knew she was missing until then lol

And, well today I was feeding Jasper (trying Jump Start with the guy since he's not been eating much and has lost about 15g in a month) and he took a flying leap from my lap onto the floor--where he promptly set up camp underneath my dresser. Got him back in minutes, though. I'm always prepared for the amazing flying geckos I own lol

Lol we have a few of those too.... the scariest one is our big daddy Rupert... he's currently in a tank on his own, and we put a female in there one time to see if they would get along... and he JUMPED across the tank, off his house down onto her.... it was fast, and pretty scary lol. im sure for her anyway.

But also our escapee houdini likes to try jump out your hands sometimes, so we always make sure were laying down or sat low when we hold her :p

I once lost a leopard gecko in my house for six months. We gave up on him, actually, when my brother nearly stepped on him putting shoes on by the washing machine. Apparently the gecko had been living under the washer the entire time, probably eating escaped crickets and typical household spiders. He hadn't even lost any weight!

Mine's a homebody, he usually tries to get back *in* to his cage when he sees it. :laugh4:

He suddenly decided to go running and got himself under the buffet once for maybe half an hour ... I guess he wasn't really lost, since I knew where he was, but I couldn't get to him. I had to move a whole bunch of boxes - very, verrry slowly in case he decided to come out while I was stomping around. Finally I just caught two crickets in a baby-food jar and set them juuuust far enough away that he had to stick his head out to see them better. Then I scooted my hand behind him and he ran out. *whew* :sweatdrop:

It really is an odd obsession he has with the buffet, he's always trying to climb it. But it's flat varnished wood, so he makes exactly zero progress. :tongue3:

My favorite male leo got out 2 years ago (no, he wasn't missing for 2 years). usually when they get out I find them under the couch, but I couldn't find him anywhere. I had pretty much given up and was looking for a replacement, when my downstairs neighbor called 3 weeks later. She had opened up her linen drawer and found him in there. I have pocket doors in my living room and both the downstairs people and we have corner cabinets next to our pocket doors with drawers. He must have gotten into the pocket doors, fallen downstairs and gotten into the drawer from the back. He's been fine (and more careful) ever since.

I've never lost a leo for more than a few hours to maybe a day, but one time my brother's newt got out and was lost for months. We had given him up for dead weeks before finding him in the laundry room covered in fuzz. It almost gave my mom a heart attack from thinking the dust bunnies had come alive. lol.

I'm a new owner... so my story is weak.

10 minutes. Bringing my new Leo home from the pet store, she got out of the box sitting in my passenger seat. I didn't know until I got back to my apartment and thought the box felt a little light. I searched for about 10 minutes in my car until I found her hiding up on a rail underneath my passenger seat.

Yeah... haha. Luckily she wasn't too traumatized by the event. I was able to coax her out with a long pen and scoop her back into her box. I'll have to keep an eye on her though. I had no idea these little guys liked to play fugitive so much.

I get the feeling that when geckos get loose, it's us that's traumatized more than them. :laugh4: They just sit there grinning while we dismantle our furniture and appliances trying to "rescue" them. :tongue3:
I'm inclined to believe they rather enjoy watching us sweat. ;)

i lost 2 babies last summer b/c they were small enough to squeeze through the air holes (i used too large of a bit on a few early on/ small short bins)

the babies manages to get out, and get outside !!,

one was found by a friend waiting for me to get home, sitting on my doorstep at 5am....(after 4 weeks)

the other was found after 2 weeks hiding around the front concrete steps...

geckos are very hardy and very adaptable...

i lost one 3 yrs ago, and to be honest I have a feeling she still lives somewhere in the building.....no bugs here, maybe that's why!

my last eclipse was my big female eclipse breeder, gone 3 days, before i noticed, she was under the fridge compressor..

good luck

Once while cleaning out our geckos' tank, our female escaped. We put them in a shallow box with hides and the smaller male went into one of the hides. I went back to put them in the newly cleaned tank and I only ound one gecko. My female climed down the back of a 3 foot dresser and was on top of some books smiling. It was histarical!

Haha... I think I might agree with this statement even after only owning one for a few weeks!
