I don't have experience with this but it may be worthwhile to check out buying some silk worms and silk worm eggs. (It's more cost effective if you have a mulberry tree growing nearby).
dang Ive been using my breeding colony, I am starting to notice they are getting gone and need to order 5k...sunshine is normally who i order from sounds liek they are running low now though...maybe ill try GA
Only one Canadian supplyer is experiencing this shortage. They bought theres from Sunshine. All the others are doing fine. Fortuently I breed all my feeders.
I talked with Sunshine today and according to them it is a grain problem but for those breeders that were using the east coast grain suppliers. Sunshine uses a west coast supplier so this is probably not affecting them. What did though was the demand of orders they received for mealworms. She said they are growing their worms now for breeding. So hopefully by July they'll have a good supply.
I too am almost out of mealworms with many hungry mouths to feed. Luckily I have a good size superworm colony going (hopefully they all like them) but it's only going to last a couple weeks.
Ditto. I ordered Supers for the adult breeders and crickets for the hatchlings. I hope this ends real soon as I don't want the hatchlings getting addicted or used to those crickets. They are such a pain.
