Why make fun of my leo?

Just a question, I have posted pictures of my Gus in the last week or so and have had 4 different people make fun of her because she is "fat"

My Gus was nearly starved to death by her first owner - she was 8 months old and weighed in at a whooping 14 grams.
Her growth was severly stunted, so she is a whooping 6 1/2 inches long; she is so short she carries her weight different.

My FAT girl is a whooping 45 grams.

The picture that gets her made fun of.

Should I put her back down to the weight that I got her? Don't forget, this is not a hatchling / juvenile picture - she was 8 months old and 14 GRAMS.

I used to love this forum - lots of info, pics and stories - I'm not liking it so much now.

I dont think anyone is "making fun" of your leo. If you look at the pictures, she looks very plump... Her growth may be stunted due to her last home, but for her size, her belly in her pics looks very round. Just because someone makes the comment of, "She is one fat leo!" doesnt necessarily make that a negative comment, or does that mean that they want you to starve her! I have an OBESE leo myself that I poke fun of a lot, who was in a similar situation. It isnt uncommon for a once starved leo to pack it on. When the body goes through a starvation process when it finally receives food, it will store the fat hardcore because the body doesnt know when it will be starved next.
I think you have come a long way with her, but how can you argue that she doesnt look round? Just because she is 45grams doesnt make her thin. Like you said, her growth was stunted. The picture portrays her as a bigger leo...
I think you are reading a little too much into comments, no one is meaning anything negative. I dont know why you wouldnt like the forum just because a few people comment that she is round?

I don't think anyone meant to "make fun". She DOES have a rather large looking belly, you have to admit that...but I don't think you should take things that other people say (or type actually) so personally. I'm positive that the people who made comments about your gecko didn't mean to "attack" you or your gecko...

Please don't be discouraged by a few people...we enjoy having you here and your contributions to the site. :)

i think she is quite pretty. she looks plump because her length growth was stunted and she is now healthy and put on some weight. i think she looks fantastic and i think you have done a fantastic job with her. do not listen to what people say. if people want to see a fat gecko they can go and look at my buffy (some is a whooping 87 grams and was up to 91, i had to put her on a diet). also sometimes shorter geckos and even some that are still growing go through a stage when they have a rounder tummy. anyhow i think she looks gorgeous and i do not think anything is wrong with her or her weight. :) keep up the fantastic work :D

i saw that photo of her on your other post and i honestly thought it was just the camera angle. even if she looks exactly like that in real life, so what!? she is healthy and has enough stored nutrients to help her make a full recovery if she ever contracted an illness. i personally always prefer my animals to have some "extra meat" on them for exactly that reason. 99% of the time when they get sick they go off food, so if they have a fat storage its like an automatic pantry for their bodies that propels them through recovery. i think your Gus is adorable!! and it is wonderful that you rescued her from such a terrible home. the important thing is that you love her, and its easy to see that you do. so embrace your girls curves!! lol. thick women are sexy!!! ;)

I get compliments that my geckos are plump and big all the time. ;) It is most likely not meant to be an insult. Gus looks fine and like everyone else said said, you have done very well bringing her back to health.

It is hard to figure out what some people really mean when you're reading text since there is no tone or inflection. :)

Riyo, it was pretty easy to read what the person meant when they said "Rudolf is one fat leo! lol." (I had made a picture for the secret santa thread that I have now deleted)
Others were "you're gecko could stand to lose a few" "rudolf looks full"

Thank you, Robin. I am proud that I was able to get her looking as good as she does. I think she is beautiful and I love her very much.

Thanks xkissmyhorsex - Yes some of the picture is the angle, Gus was bunched up - she was in mid-walk. I agree, I'd rather have a few extra grams, especially when the go off food this time of year/start of breeding season (not that I am breeding her) or if they get ill.

I don't feel I over reacted to the comments on Gus - I would not walk up to a person on the street and tell them that they were fat, ugly, whatever or if someone on the street was walking a overweight dog I would not go up to them and say "That dog is fat"

I am a defensive mother to my girl - since she is special to me (she is my first leo and I thought she was going to die from her neglect)

If I would have said "Look at my little fatty" or something like that, fine have at it and call her fat/large/tubby/jumbo/elephant/whatever you want to call her.

I was raised that if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.

If you want to take my comment of calling her a fat leo, than that is up to you. It was not meant to be negative and I just dont see why you have to take it so personal.

She's a cute girl! I know it's hard but you have to try not to take things said on a forum so personally. It;s obvious you love your gecko very much and easy to see you take very good care of her.

My one comment wasn't suppose to be negative I've saw the before picture believe me I am in the same situation I have a gecko that looked like
gb1.jpg

But I've gotten her plumbed up.BTW that was when she was around 3 years old so believe me,I let her eat like a baby and now looks like
match111061.jpg

I am sorry if it was offensive.
She was stunned so now she is only going to 7 1/2 inches for rest of her life.

Well,, the truth is, she is a little tubby around the middle, but I personal think that a chubby gecko is cute. Some times when people type things, it can sound mean or rude when all it is, is the tone in which you read it. I wouldn't try to take things so personal, besides the fact, if you are proud or her & love her as much as you do, why on earth would you even care what other people think. What other people type about your gecko does not change your veiw of her does it?

Just remember when someone types something, it will always sounds different when they type it rather than saying it. Sometimes I will read something & think "HEY! What the hell did I do?!" but if you think that way, just re-read their post in a different tone of voice & maybe you will see how they really mean't it.

Life isn't fun if your serious all the time... :)

I agree! And she's so cute. And so what if she is a little pleasantly plump. She is still gorgeous and you should feel proud for rescuing her and bring her back to good health.

I wouldn't worry about it, to be honest. Just be happy you are doing your best to keep the Gecko healthy. That's all that matters, and if you love her, right?! She's pretty and looks very well taken care of. I have fat geckos too, that my family and friends make fun of. But in the end they say that they look very well taken care of. - That's for damn sure! :D I rather have a healthy looking gecko then a sickly looking gecko. You'll get more "flack" for having one that's underweight then overweight.

I think I've missed your previous post, but Gus looks great to me. I prefer my geckos have a bit more meat on them. If someone says my geckos are chubby, I'll take that as a compliment. :)
