This question involves the pathology report and the ruleing out of any neuro issues...
How could neuro issues be ruled out when the geckos were dead during testing??? Now that I look better, the report looks more like a basic necropsy report without a "cause of death"...

Hi Gregg

The main cause of death would have been by fatty liver, in all enigmas that ourselves,Dave Davis (Welsh reptile breeder) and Ark reptile dontated to science and all come from different sources had fatty liver, other small breeders have had problems with there enigmas and they also have been told there gecko has fatty liver, for some unkown reason specialists we have spoke to so far have stated enigmas dont have a long life span like most leos and this occurs and will kill them quite early in life. :(

IN September 08 us and Dave Davis dontated more enigmas and other leos to Liverpool University where a top reptile specialist is under going some studies on the leos given,

Some of the leos both enigmas and other morphs will be put to sleep and then closer inspections tests will be carried out and more reports issued to us but this is still some time away.

We have spoke to Kelli a few times over the phone and i know she is having simular tests done on her leos so we both can compare reports

OK???

Ha no answer.....

The next time you bring up a 6 month old thread looking for an answer you might try something like, "Have any updates on this topic?" or "Oh, I see that this questioned must have been missed. Anyone know what's going on with this?". Rude comments usually lead to more rude comments.

I might have missed this in one of the posts but does the possible fatty liver and shorten life span affect all Enigmas or just the ones that are showing outward signs like tail chasing, star gazing, etc.?

I'm awaiting the final results from the testing I am having done (test group consists of many animals: Enigmas, Enigma siblings, unrelated normal non Enigmas). The preliminary results I have gotten do not indicate any issues with fatty liver disease, but again, it's preliminary. I would prefer to await the final results of all the tests before commenting further.

On a side note, every adult leopard gecko that has ever died in my collection that has been necropsied has shown signs of fatty liver disease. My belief is it has something to do with the diet we feed them or the supplementation regiments we follow. I hope someday someone has the time and money (and gumption) to do a long time, several year study on leopard geckos, diet and supplementation. We had donated some of our geckos to Texas Christian University for a study but sadly the project was dissolved due to lack of funding.

One interesting question is whether the fatty liver was the cause of death or the result of not eating because of another cause.

I have witnessed several leo necropsies, and the greatest common factor that i've seen has been hepatic lipadosis...funny you should mention that Kelli.

It would be awesome if someone really took the time and money to figure it out...I think you guys could be on to something here.
