The company should have some sort of warning that the stuff is not safe for pets.
Agreed. The technician that cleaned my carpets had some 'extra' carpet deodorizer in the pre-treat solution he was using, and it's usually a hefty extra charge. He let me have it for free. The wierd thing is, that as he was spraying it all over the carpets, the thought went through my mind that it HAD to be safe, because people have dogs and cats that walk on carpets. If only I had acted on my fleeting red-flag that went up in my head.

I will call tomorrow and request the MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) for every chemical they used on my carpets, and let them know what happened to my babies. I don't care about any refund... I only care that they know that this happened, and it is not safe! The guy that was here was a genuine animal lover, and was very fascinated with my geckos. It wasn't his fault. I am only concerned for the future safety of ANY animal that comes in contact with whatever they used on my carpets.

I am worried for my dogs now. I have every window in the house open and fans blowing the inside air OUT of the windows. My female fat-tails and N. wheeleri were also on bottom racks, and one of them was very lethargic when I checked on her. She seems to be acting fairly normal now. I am afraid of what I might wake up to in the morning.

I am only sharing this with all of you to prevent this from happening again. My heart is broken, and I am sick to my stomach with grief. My poor little babies...

If it's that toxic to the geckos. I don't care what the company says. It's toxic at some level to all living things that come into contact with it. Humans included. Arne't we already exposed to enough harmfull crap!

Now we have to worrier about carpet cleanings as well?

Thank goodness for the age of NON toxics and Bio degradables are starting to catch on. Big!!!

Marcia, I too am sickened to hear this news and just wanted to thank you for once again sharing your experiences with us the community. I just bought a shampooer and shampooed my hallway and bedrooms, but ran out of shampoo before making it to the reptile room. I won't risk ever shampooing that room after hearing this. I was also planning on painting the reptile room in the future and am not sure that's a good idea either. We'll keep your little geckos in our prayers.

I am so sorry for your loss Marcia. I hope that this company re-thinks what they use for cleaning carpets and maybe starts using Green products that are non-toxic to animals&humans alike. I doubt it was there fault being they didn't realize it would have this effect on lizards and possibly other animals but i hope they take your experience with a grain of salt and plan on using safe products.

Oh man, i'm sorry...i know what that's like, i had ferrets in our apartment that got treated for pest control, the landlord told us that it was safe for animals....and it wasn't. Needless to say we were upset and can't bear to have another ferret...our thoughts are with you.
