wow, Red Heads really do think alike. I confirm what i stated in my first post. That is not a 3k gecko. The genetics are too stinking ( i caught myself and didn't swear) sketchy. I'm very happy the morph is out there but i don't want to be one of the first ones to work with it. I have the money to do it but it's not a gamble i'm willing to risk

I agree with you guys on the early release! There isn't enought known about the genetics on this gecko to be 3,000 dollar gecko.

Only one lone male survived and from the original group! How long did the dutch breeder have these before being sold?

For how long these have been around, atleast 3 years, they know very little about the genetics or otherwise they would just think its recessive. It sounds like that they have been breed alot more then people think. Atleast 3 people have had and breed these "Black Pearls" so you don't know for sure if no one else has a gecko with these genetics.

If the hets show the genetics of this morph then it won't be long before they are all over the place. I just don't think its recessive but that my thoughts. This morph is from wild caught. Its one heck of a lottery winning to get a recessive gene from wild caught leos out of the first hatchlings. Sounds a litte IFFY!

I might be wrong on this idea so correct me if i am!

I wish I had an extra three grand laying around. I'd certainly buy one if that was the case. Just because genetics are not fully understood on this morph doesn't mean it's a horrible thing to release them now. Think about some of the past morphs that have been released before the genetics were completely figured out (and I'm not talking about Enigmas either). As far as price goes I feel Craig has every right to ask whatever he wants for them, and for a brand new morph like this it's not totally out of the question. The first year the Patternless (unfortunately recently renamed the "Murphy Patternless" was released only females were sold and they were $3000. That was back in like 1995 too.

Not my cup of tea. Not to impressed wouldn't spend that money on them. Its like the complete opposite of what I and many have been trying to achieve for years a bright red gecko. they might look cool patternless stripe eclipsed out. rather spend it on a Lemon Blast, Spinner, genetic stripe or Piebald Ball python or a whole list of other things.

I can totally agree with someone pricing out a gecko whatever they want to price it as. In sales it's all about what is the product worth to the person inquiring on purchasing the product. So to some people it is well worth every bit of the 3k. But to me if it is a Dom trait then that 3k is going to be very hard to make back up. (just looking from a business stand point)

I have nothing but respect for Craig and everything that he does. Just in economic times such as these is it worth spending the 3k on something that can turn around and bite you in the butt. It's a gamble. I love the morph would love to get that into some striped or jungle patterns.

If I could I'd get my hands on some, I really want to see what the enigma gene does to these and they are proven genetic just it's unclear what kind. But those are some interesting and amazing animals and I don't think anyone can argue that.

LOL, Kelli! I AM thinking about all the past morphs that were released before the genetics were completely proven out... that's why I'm waiting!

I just think that this hyper-melanistic morph is a more common then everyone thinks. It may not be THAT common but i think there is more out there from these specific genetics. I just don't think that that many breeders can have this morph and only 2 people have it right now. What happened to the original WC leos that they come from?

You are right, if it is dominate then it will spread quick and getting 3 grand back would take a long time to acheive. The three grand is for just for a female so you would have to get a male, to get black pearls the first year, which i'm sure will be more because of the new genetics. If you didn't get a male then it would take a couple years to get a black pearl and a really long time to get your money back.

I know I am one crazy person. I have never made money from this hobby in fact I am scared to even think how much has been dropped in the last 15 years and never recovered. I just love them for number one being the most awsome lizard to own and second for having so much fun with the genetics behind all these morphs so it makes it like opening a present when you open the incubator. I know there is going to be a lot of "haters" of this morph for a while until they prove themselves one way or another. I have wanted to get into these since I first even heard about them and I can't be the only crazy one because 3 days ago I asked Craig if he had anymore of the 7 since I bought mine and he said he only had 3 available and it hadn't even hit public yet. So at least I am not the only one that is crazy.

Yes I know I could have bought other things with the money, but this is what I enjoy so much and I have been selling other reptiles like snakes/beardies to help fund this project. I always try to have my reptile money go to reptiles, plus I have one wonderful understanding husband that knows that I need another hobby then just taking care of our three boys or I would go crazy.

As far as them being black, I know they are not. I do feel they will by a true hyper melanistic gecko. Craig explained it as how they look like a black panther, as black panthers are super dark but you can see the original pattern underneath and this is the same for the black pearls.

I will keep everyone updated on my girls progress, take pics, document each stage and so forth.
