Do I get this gecko? Or not?

Unless money has exchanged hands, it's not a done deal. With that said, I sympathize. I have been beaten to the punch a few times and it is never enjoyable.

But if a buyer and seller have agreed to a deal, then the seller backs out and sells it to someone else before the payment deadline has passed, that shows a lack of integrity on the seller's part. If there had been no agreement made, or the buyer failed to pay by the agreed upon deadline, then it would have been fine, but in this case it appears that the seller broke their word to Maia for a few extra bucks. :main_thumbsdown:

Maybe.

I have had, quite literally, over a hundred would be customers who swore up and down they would either send payment or meet me at X place at Y time, only to never notify, never pay, and never show.

Regardless of the agreement, it is still the seller's gecko, to do what the seller wants with it, until payment is rendered. Is this an unfortunate situation for Maia? You bet. Would I be leery about doing any future business with this person? You bet. Would Maia have kept her end of this? As far as I am aware from the internet, yes. Still, it is his animal regardless until funds are in his hands or the equivalent.

Where was this gecko being sold?

Having been on either side of sales on craigslist many times, I can see both points of view. As a seller, I try to be fair to the first person who replied, but if that person seems a bit flaky and some one else is ready to buy now, I'm selling it now. Without knowing the details of the communication between the involved parties, we really shouldn't be passing judgement.

It was a crappy situation that just turned out the way it did. It wasn't meant to be, and there's another gecko out there with my name on it. That's all.

It's all good. I've already got my eye on something similar. In fact, I think this one is prettier. But i'm not gonna post him. I think that's what got me in trouble in the first place. :/

If a agreement is made then it should be kept 100% not matter what! I don't care who you are or if any other factors are involved. It is only shady business practice to sell something when it has been promised to someone else. If you do then your only worried about selling it and getting the money otherwise you would be willing to wait til there is no contact or a withdrawal from the buyer. Karma is a b@#$h and I hope it comes back to bit them in the A$$!

I'm sorry things did not work out for you. That really sucks, but atleast you have another one you have your eye on!

Something VERRRY similar JUST happened to me aswell not even a few weeks ago.

I will keep the seller unnamed. There was a gecko for sale, i was all about it, and after a few correspondences, i believe i made it quite clear that i would be purchasing the gecko from this person. Well, this gecko that i had planned on purchasing would have been replacing a gecko that i originally had paired up with a mate. Well, long story short, i sold the gecko of mine to a lady in my area for her son, and when i contacted this person to say "hey, i just cleared the room, what is your paypal address?", this person decided that they didn't want to sell it anymore and decided to hold it back. After all the PM's back and forth with me saying i wanted it.

So now, i'm out what was one of my best looking geckos, and nothing to pair with the other gecko.

Yes, i agree that since there was no payment yet, technically the seller can make that descision, but it comes down to ethics to me, and yes, bad business. Personally, i think its bull. Atleast contact the person that you were in contact with and ask if they still wanted it before you decided to "change your mind". If it were me, knowing that there was atleast 1 person that was interested, i would have contacted them 1st before i made my descision, to see where they stood.

Again, I have been on the receiving end of this, but I don't think I get to dictate when or why a person changes his or her mind. It's simply an unfortunate situation.

It's not a "person" it's a breeder, and honestly I think it's a bad business practice. If you want people to buy from you, you don't make shady movements by selling the product right behind someones back when you know it is sold! Who cares if the money comes now or later.

some people are nicer than me, heh, but if it was me, i'd put the breeder on blast because this is definately not a professional way of doing business and hopefully it would prevent any further misfortunes to someone else. but that's just me.

Breeders are no longer people?

Who cares? The person to receive the money cares.

I'm not saying breeders aren't people, but someone who I'm paying, I expect a higher standard, say then one of my friends who went behind my back and did something.
