I agree, sometimes it is needed, animals that need high hummidity need a natural set-up. But leos no, they like it dry, paper towels,newspaper,or slate works just fine for them and has no risks of impaction. Sand as just a substrate for leos can cause other probs besides impaction, I have read several things on how it dries out their feet and can cause shedding problems in their feet.

Again, this is where proper husbandry (or lack there of) comes into play... If you offer humidified hide spots, there will be no issues with shedding... If leos are not provided the humid hides in a paper towel cage, they will have problems shedding especially on the feet...

All of the arguments presented against sand can easily be attributed to improper husbandry and not the sand itself...

Like I said already, I do agree with you that alot of cases are do to improper care but NOT ALL. I have talked to 3-4 people with legit cases, they were not newbies and took great care of their leos besides the sand, plus I had a freind that lost a leo to sand impaction and I know besides for the sand, he took great care of his leo. Yea they may be rare, but their are cases that sand kills and its not the owners fault. Its not fair or correct to say all people arent keeping their leos properly because they lost a leo to sand.
