AHHH RUNAWAY

I checked on my geckos this morning like I always do and I noticed I couldn't see one of my hatchlings staring back at me from her hide, like she usually does. And then to my horror I see that she'd managed to get out from her rack drawer. I checked the others to see if she's decided to room with my other hatchling and nothing.

I have checked EVERYWHERE but I keep my geckos in the livingroom of my small apartment, so the entire place is fair game for a little gecko. I am so stressed out, I have a test to study for so this is really just not what I want or need. I promised our dog a steak dinner if she could sniff her out. I know my dog didn't do anything because she is incapable of hurting anything, and because she was in my bedroom all night.

I'm hoping we will just see her poking out of where ever she is hiding, because we have turned the entire livingroom and kitchen upside down.
AHHHHHH!

Hope you find her. I think there are some people who have set out mealworm bowls, water and hides to coax their runaways to go to a place to be found. Good Luck!

check all of the warm spots or dark spots around your house like under fridges, couches, ect. If I were a gecko that's where I would go.

I've had one gecko run off before, and he went right under the couch that's next to the cages and stayed there. And our corn snake a year ago did the exact same thing. So we were hoping to find her under a couch, but nothing yet.

I'll try putting some hides and mealworms out for her, see if she comes back. I can't imagine she went very far but I don't know where she could have gotten into. We'll continue searching and I'll post if I find her or not.

Everyone cross their fingers!

Man, speaking of runaways, my amazing subadult female harley crested gecko almost got away from me yesterday. She jumped out of my hand, ran across the floor, and disappeared into my mess of a walk-in closet! Thankfully I found her after a brief frantic search, but gah!! Stress!! I hope you find your little one!

We are turning over all the furniture, but so far nothing. We're going to try a full darkness search with red lights, so see if we can find her peeking out of something. This is driving me crazy, I can't believe she made it way past the livingroom, because there is nothing we haven't checked in there.

I wish you luck. I just discovered last night that one of my banded geckos managed to get out of the rack despite the tub being covered with aluminum foil. I keep looking but I don't expect I'll find him.

In my rack system that I made I use the sterilite containers with lids to prevent escapees. I had one get out when just using a drawer system but I found him running across the living room shortly after. I suggest using lids with air holes if possible. Even if it's screen netting held on by a rubberband.

Seriously. I think instead of drawers (since I don't have that many geckos in quarantine or that are hatchlings and so don't have their own 10 gal) I'm just gonna get those plastic bins with the lids that clip on and just drill holes into the lid.

I'm keeping my hopes up of finding her running around tonight as soon as it gets dark. We'll turn off the lights and just use the red bulb lamps we have to see if we can find her. I'd really feel so awful if I don't find her.... and I know that in a year when we move out I'll find her mummified under the most obvious place in the world, I just know it.

Ahhhh wish us luck!

I know, I don't know how she managed to get out. It seems really hard to squeeze out, but here we are. I hope you find yours too!

If it makes you feel any better, we've never lost one that we didn't find! LOL In our house they've generally ended up less than 10 feet from their tub. They good/bad thing about living in the Gulf Coast is that it's warm and humid. It can make them harder to find but we don't have to worry about them freezing while they're lost. Good luck!

Ooooh, she's a little runaway...

When mine ran off I lured him out into the open with bouncy crickets in a jar. But then, I knew the general area he was in.

Good luck! You'll find 'em. :D

Thanks for the good luck wishes everyone!

I know reptiles that get out don't usually wander very far, and my apartment is a pretty small one, but only God knows what tiny hole she's hidden herself in that no one can find her. We set little traps for her all over the livingroom - a little plate of mealworms with a nice hide next to each. We hope that she'll wander over to the food, and decide that it's probably easier to hide out near the food. So far no luck, but we're hoping it works soon!

Crank up the air conditioner and lay out a hot rock. :tongue3: :tongue3:

Setting out mealies sounds good; I've never found a better way to catch a loose animal than with free food! ;)
