ATTENTION!!! Leopard Gecko Symposium...

Me and some other breeders have been toying around with the idea, and have been for a couple years, of hosting a Leopard gecko symposium for anyone whom would like to come. This could be a meeting once a year to be able to discuss hot topic of the year and get a chance to see everyone and meet new breeders. There would be guest speakers along with a few other surprises.

We were thinking avbout hosting it in the spring during a large show so it can be a dual purpose vacation for everyone. Please pick yes or no in the poll , and any opinions are greatly appreciated. Of course there will be a small fee for people attending, but costs will be as limited as possible for all to attend. Many hot topics will be touched such as:
Enigmas
Market status
Incubation methods
History of the morphs and hobby
etc

The actual place is in the air currently, first comes the interest then the funds to have the event. But this would be such a great thing for the community!

Close but this would be a structured leopard geckomeeting where all breeders can get opinions and answers to questions they may have. Instead of rumors and bickering...lol

I think it would be a great thing to do. I am from Canada but if it were hosted in a few different spots I'm sure I would find a spot where I'd be willing to make the road trip.

I think it would be a good thing to have in a central location so as many can attend as possible without prohibitive travel times and expense.

A topic I would like to see discussed is the responsibility of breeders to the offspring they produce when they are are no longer wanted as pets/breeders.
We see so many leos out there on Clist and the like, it would be good if the community could come together in some way to not only educate, but to provide shelter for unwanted geckos in a more organized fashion.

Unfortunelty travel will be involved, it is impossible to have it where no one will be traveling..lol The first year will mostly not be in florida or CA, sorry guys:[ but trust me it will be worth the plane or car ride!

An awesome idea. It would be great to have a convention-type event based solely on leos. It would be huge! Lots of great training sessions, vendor exhibits, breeders with their leos....sign me up!

Daytona or Southern Cal would be fine but a central location with cheap airfares would be best so people all over the US could get there easily. Vegas comes to mind and would be cheap to do, but is that doable for the vendors?

No matter where this is, I'll be there.

I voted yes, although I know I won't be able to attend regularly if at all. But, I'm not exactly a big name in the game, so I'm not about to overstate my importance here. ;-)

The National Wildlife Society holds its annual conference in different regions throughout the country. For example, last year it was in Miami, and this year it's in Monterey Bay, CA. I think it would be best if the leopard gecko symposium does the same, since you'll get much broader national coverage, not to mention national publicity and improved education avenues, if you keep changing locations. I think holding them at the big shows (ie. Daytona, White Plains, the TX and CA shows, etc) is a good idea, provided we can get a conference room for it.

Are you envisioning this as happening the Friday before a meeting or in the evening - perhaps Sunday evening?

I would really like to attend, but it will depend on where and when for me. I like the idea a lot though.
