On our enigma male that tilts his head, I observed that he has a smaller ear hole then on the other side of his head. This could possibly lead to inner ear problems that throw him off.... Just observing.

So can all of you that have an enigma that has a head tilt, look on that side of the head and compare ear hole sizes and post them for me please. Thanks!

After obsessively comparing ear hole sizes, our Enigmas all appear to have very similarly sized ear holes.
OK, that was just darned funny. *pictures Mel and Keith obsessively measuring ear hole sizes*

On a serious note, I will check out my enigmas and report back what I find. An interesting theory for sure. :main_yes:

I've got to say that although I'm not a breeder, reading all of your threads about the many unknowns of enigmas if absolutely fascinating. Good luck to all of you who are continuing with these projects & sharing your findings.

LMAO Oh, it's really not funny but now I'm going to be looking at every hatchling (regardless of the morph) and thinking, "Are these ear holes the same size?". Geez...

indeed that was a great read and makes more sense then anything else that has been hypothesized.....is there a realistic way we'll be able to test leos for things like this?

This is what is says in the link
"The most accessible way to evaluate the middle ear is with a set of radiographs called a bulla series, so named because it focuses on an ear bone called the tympanic bulla. If the bulla appears abnormal, the ear may require surgical drainage. The problem is that x-rays are often not sensitive enough to pick up damage in the middle ear and a normal set of films does not rule out disease. In these cases, special imaging such as a CAT Scan or MRI is better, although rather expensive. These imaging techniques, however, allow imaging of the brain tissue itself (which radiology does not) thus allowing brain abnormalities to be evaluated as well"

Would a CAT scan or MRI be too powerful for a lil gecko?

it is a good read but i am a vet tech and i have seen Vestibular Disease and it is nothing like what the enigmas do. it may be an inner ear thing in some way but it is not Vestibular Disease.

what the enigmas do is more comparable to a spider ball python. and i think that the circleing thing has more to do with a stress thing then anything eles.

Just My oppinion and yes i have hatched a few enigmas some never showed it and others showed it and grew out of it with in weeks. so far none of the bigger ones that i have to it. but i have seen clutch mates of enigmas do this as well so i dont think that it is only in enigmas. again just an oppinion based on my breeding so far.

Actually, there may be something to this, Mallorie. It's what I have been trying to suggest about some of the Enigma's behavior, but it's falling on deaf, egotistical ears (pun intended):
