you can have het stripe from certain lines which means its a simple recessive trait.

BUT some of these said simple recessive Stripes have produced banded offspring...I believe Marcia posted pics of hers...

FYI, it's Triple Moons Exotic, and I wasn't the one who started, Robin. I can't help that most people don't get basic genetics, or like to make up genetics terminology usage. I also could care less what kind of mood your in. I frankly am tired of the tip toeing around people and people making things up. I want facts...In my face proven facts...

ok prove your own facts amd breed some stripes.
a pair of marcias stripes are on loan from me.
fact : for the last three seasons from breeding moms to pops (both stripes) i produced 100% stripe babies. second i have worked with stripe hets and have produced stripe babies from "hets" normal loooking animals but carrying the stripe gene. the banded marcia produced had a stripey tail. because of the stripe tail it makes then a stripe even if the body doesnt have one. just like you have different degrees in bells and tremper and whatever, you have differing degrees of stripe as well.

now tell me steph, have you ever worked with striped leopard geckos or het stripes?

tell me how do you think kelli produced her stripe bells? pulled them out the air?

Sorry, Robin! They produced a very nice BANDED baby last season. Felicia DiMuro bought her. Also, Kelli just produced a BANDED baby out of Eenie and Meanie.

ah with a stripey tail. while it has banded on the body it has stripey on the tail. just like in other morphs of animals there are varying degrees of stripe. like jungles and reverse stripes.
i bet money if felicia bred that to a stripe she would get striped babies.

OK. I have been working with bold stripes for many years. I have kept good records on my breeding results. I have come to the conclusion that the stripe gene (at least the R2 and Tremper lines) act as a recessive trait. I've made hets and produced stripes from them year after year. I'm not sure what more evidence is needed. About the banded babies: yes they have body bands but they do have striping on the tail, and I consider them to be stripes, just not good examples of the morph. Look at the striped ball pythons and striped corns and cal kings. Not all of them have a perfect, full stripe. Many of them have broken up stripes or very little striping and are still considered a recessive stripe because of the genetics of the parental units. I'm sorry, but I have to agree with the argument Robin is making in this instance only because I have the years of working with stripes under my belt and I feel I have a pretty good idea of how the trait reproduces itself. We've have had this same freakin argument for like 4 years now, and I have yet to see any evidence to the contrary. Sorry but this is how I see it. Now be nice to each other, this isn't Fauna now.

You can't compare a Stripe cornsnake to a Stripe Leopard gecko if you consider those banded geckos Stripes. I do not consider them Stripes, and if it were truly simple genetic, I don't believe they woud have bands at all. Stripe Cornsnakes do not have saddles (bands) on there backs at all, the only variation you will see is unconnected striping, which is certainly not the same thing as a banded gecko with one little spot on its tail being connected (However, Motley cornsnakes can be selectively bred to be banded - but that's a different proven recessive gene entirely).

You can breed a line bred / selective / polygenetic (whatever the word of the day is, it's all relatively the same) so much in a line that it's strong enough to act recessive, but that doesn't mean it is.

But, I've said this all before, sometimes I feel like a broken record. :main_yes:

And how do you know it is not recessive? Your breeding results?

You can't compare a Stripe cornsnake to a Stripe Leopard gecko if you consider those banded geckos Stripes.

Why can't I compare the two? For the record, we used to work with all kinds of cornsnake morphs, and I remember hatching some stripes that were totally awesome looking and some that were not great examples. I strongly feel that it is the same with striped leos. sometimes you get some that are poor examples of the morph but it does not mean they are not the morph. If that makes sense. Haha ok, time for more caffeine for Kelli. ;-p

Robin,

My plan for Boo is to pair her with a a male I produced from a SH Stripe x HT. All offspring from this SH Stripe have been banded. So if they are het stripe x het stripe, I should produces a couple stripe/jungle babies. This won't happen till next year, as I'm not going to be breeding any more females this year, due to the move.

I was also thinking since Strongbad has been producing some jungles and stripes, that if I manage to get a jungle/stripe Bell male from him, I may pair her up with him in a future project.

So the het stripe saga still goes on... ;)

Edit: Marcia had made a comment about the bridge on the nose on most of your bold stripes. The SH Stripe (Sunbeam) and her male offspring that I will be pairing with Boo both have the nose bridge, as well as Boo. Side note, Sunbeam is a daughter of Toughie!! ;)

Nice :main_thumbsup: I'd call him/her a jungle :sweatdrop: JUST :D as it has a abberant body band + abberant tail pattern.
