WoW! I didn't know there was this much tension in the leopard gecko community. Sure has been a lot of it lately.

There are obviously many different opinions about what is right and what is wrong. I think each person should make up their own mind about it and let others do the same. This isn't the first time that money is more important to a individual in the leopard gecko community and I am sure it won't be the last. When a breeder has become focused on just the money aspect then it is time to reconsider who you purchase from. Ron has some great geckos but to me, they aren't worth the price. Same with a lot of geckos out there.

I never said I thought he was right for doing what he did. My point was I was just expecting everyone else to be more professional about how they dealt with it.

a gecko or anything is what someone is willing to pay for it.

That's why I said to me.

The minimum priced gecko on his site is $150 and that only a few. Most of them are $200-250+ with many being $350+. What average reptile enthusiast has that kind of money to spend on each gecko? A majority of reptile enthusiast don't pay that much for each of their geckos. I understand that quality is important but you don't have to pay $250 plus for quality. There are many great quality geckos under $150.

true but you would be surprised what people are willing to pay for particular geckos or particular lines

This is very true...especially if people believe they are investing in a brand new morph. Pricing is a whole new debate on its own. But the topic on hand I think the statement "when in doubt, breed it out" is all that's needs to be said.

don't know how this thread got derailed from the fact that kelli hatched out an awesome SSE, but some people just don't have a sense of humor. people seem to have lost the sense of fun in breeding leos. i know the topic of money inevitably comes into play, but some people seriously need to sit back, re-think their reason for breeding, and learn to relax. since this "galaxy" that you hatched is causing so many issues, i'll take it off your hands kelli ;)

How about this... The 'giant' is a recessive trait, whereby people clamored and spent tremendous amounts of money on hets, only to find out later that it was really a co-dominant trait.

And then even later that it's more likely a Polygenic trait,
And easy living with a good regular and constant food source.
Coz it's deffo not Codominant.

Most of those are sold and out of date. Recent price for virgin super giant albino, diablo blanco (two red eyes), and Tremper Albino Patternless Super Snow Enigma is only $149. Those are the most exspensive priced for resale. Holdbacks are the exspensive ones, but they aren't virgins.

Indeed. My breeding experiments (I transitioned to almost exclusively Giants and Super Giants over the years) have led me to observe a trend indicating that it has more to do with a combination of line (#1) and lifestyle (contingent upon satisfying #1) than genuine codominance bound to a single "Giant gene" or whatever idea is being popularly sold. A surface glance would lead one to believe the exhibition/behavior is of codominance, though.

Someone even called him out on his first post of what it was and he was quick to defend it. His website now says on 6-22-11 that is a variation of super snow eclipse/abyssinian. I just find it hard to believe(or maybe not) that you would make sure your paperwork and genetics questions are covered before making a huge spectacle of the situation. I have seen others get ripped for their lack of proof or documents to prove otherwise when they try to introduce "something new" why should he be held no different in our community? Just my opinion

I had asked him on the FB post (that kelli posted above) if he was sure it did not already included the snow gene. He has deleted my comment on that thread as well....:main_no: only a week later to confess...
