I chose slate tile, but I'll actually be using granite tiles for the leo cage (only b/c we have a pallette of 6" granite tiles right now). I have slate in the dragon's enclosure though. Works great, retains heat well and easy to scrub down. :main_thumbsup:

I use to use repti-carpet but now I use vinyl tile. It's the easiest to clean and transfers and holds heat great on my warm side. It's just wipe down and your done. I am planning on offering it on my website soon as a substrate option. I also use paper towels in my rack system.

I have linoleum (so I picked slate??). I just went to our down-home country hard ware store & asked if they had any scraps. They sold WAY more than I needed, 4 yards for only $3. I just measured the top of my tank, cut the linoleum & set it in the bottom with some double sided tape around the edges. It also absorbs heat from the lamp & gives off good belly heat. And sometimes, I get my heating pad & put it on low & just let Kirsa lay on it, she loves it. One time she sat there, never moved, for an hour enjoying the belly heat. :main_laugh:

I use ecoearth and love it. I have to say it smells nice (after you just soaked it smells like it does outside after a rain), it causes no harm if swallowed, and I think it makes my leos stand out really nicely against the brown. Plus, they love to dig in it.

I use repti carpet, but after trying to pick up after him, it was pretty hard, we need a pooper scooper lol. So i went on looking for ways to clean repti carpet and some had the ideo to put a peice of toilet paper in the corner. So repti carpet with toilet paper in the corner where he poops.

Yep, I cut a corner off a paper towel and position that in the poop corner so they don't go on the carpet. They go right on that paper and then I just toss it out and put in a fresh one. easy cleanup!

before I got Kiko, I did a lot of research, and paper towel seemed the easiest and safest to use. and they're right! its safe for her, easy to clean, and tears perfectly to fit into her cage.

I keep my guy on paper towel. Got him as a baby and he's been on it since.

It's time to go for a more naturalistic look I think, though...
Where do you get natural slate that is cut to fit into a 10gal tank?
Does Home Depot/Lowes/hardware stores do it for you? Do they even have "NATURAL" slate?

Personally I didn't find a way to cut the slate to fit perfectly. I just fit it in and used sifted play sand to fill in the gaps. Some people would say to not have any sand in there but I don't see it being a problem for adults that are cared for correctly with the right conditions. Even using paper towel they could always tear off a chunk and swollow it if they really wanted to.
