Without seeming like i am arguing, but just genuinely asking;

surely no one can be sued for their opinion? Even if Ron doesn't like it.

One can be sued for anything, and even if the lawsuit ends up being dismissed, one still has to spend a lot of money on attorneys and other things. The person in question that had threatened to do the suing a few years ago over a similar thread has a lot of money; I do not. However, I am done censoring people's opinions about "new" Tremper morphs. We are all entitled to our opinions.

this is the quote from Ron's site in regards to the "blue bellies"

At this time I feel that the blue or green coloration is due to metabolic enzymes and not genetics. Although we will continue to breed this bloodline I think there is very little chance for the long sought after blue gecko. But there is always hope.

wow, but what about free speech and stuff? ... i guess i know very little about law and legalities to be honest.

Seems like a lot of trouble about 1 thread on 1 forum...

Anyway thanks for the info Kelli.

I realize I may not be speaking for anyone else, but leopard gecko morphs have made it to the level that unless somebody hatches out a solid black that retains the look, my response to stuff is always going to be "so what?"

I mean seriously, there are so many morphs that are so close to others that I'd be happy if we could somehow get rid of a few. Even if this a new genetic mutation, what difference does it make?

How much simpler things would be if two of the three albino strains were to disappear...

I think it'd be easier if all 3 weren't some variant form of what's formerly known as tyrosine positive albinism. Something more easily distinguishable.

That is part of the reason why I've stayed with the more classic morphs. The last time I said neat freak'n leo was when Kelli messaged me on MSN with a photo of the enigma shortly after she got it from the Bells, if I'm remembering that MSN convo right.

Jordan, if someone can prove that you've lied to others or tried to destroy their reputation and that your disparaging remarks have directly affected their business profits then they would have a valid law suit. But like Kelli said, a law suit doesn't have to be valid to be brought against you. Anyone can pay an attorney to file suit against you and then you have to pay an attorney to fight it. Your personal opinions on a gecko morph would fall under the category of free speech though. ;)

I'm not going to say anything to cast a shadow on the illustrious Mr. Tremper but I'll say this: "I'll believe it when someone else reproduces it." ;)

This thread is interesting to me. Sort of. It's a kind of meta-interest, more than any investment in the topic being directly discussed. I'm largely indifferent to leopard gecko morphs. I don't keep leopard geckos, I don't find much appeal in owning color and pattern mutations, I just don't care the way people who are involved and interested will.

The fact the thread exists at all, the tone and nature of many of the replies, these things are interesting though. Observing from outside, I get the impression that it may be a tip of the ice burg situation; comments are being made about this specific morph but many of them read as though the author is a little fed up with the state of the morph market in general. Bloodlines and morphs being used interchangeably, the degree of deviation between "New!" projects becoming much finer and less obvious, frustrations with the way genotypes have been mixed* and not a small undercurrent of dislike for some of the marketing models being used by the largest suppliers.

The attitudes of individuals who are involved enough to have an opinion and participate on a website in a discussion about the topic are representative of a sub-demographic of course... the largest pool of gecko owners are still the ones who own one or two as pets and are content to leave their interest undiscussed... but it's still fascinating to read a thread like this and consider some of the implications when a segment of the more serious herpetoculturalists (avid pet owners, other breeders and dealers) are trending towards opinions that are radically different than they were ten years ago.

I'm personally predicting an aquarium-hobby-like division on the subject, but whatever happens it will be interesting.

Kind of a side-note, anyone who posts anything online should make themselves aware of libel laws, at least in generalities.

*when your punnet square has 64 or more boxes and 63 out of 64 possible results will need to be labeled as possible hets, it indicates an enormous number of offspring being rejected from projects as undesirable... and explains why every single person buying a gecko from a big box chain pet store feels compelled to make a post asking what morph they have.

If the 'sun' didn't show up on 2 of the origional 5 'Galaxies' but showed up in their offspring, wouldn't it still be a morph?I know more about dogs than I do geckos, so I liken it to the Rhodesian Ridgeback's ridge- shows up in most, but not all. Doesn't mean it isn't RR or that it won't show up in it's offspring.

Not necessarily. According to the information available, not all 'Galaxies' exhibit the paradox spot(s). Many geckos have special characteristics that offspring exhibit in varying degrees.
