What a great idea for a thread :main_thumbsup:

We have some really random names. We adopted our first leo, so he came with his name (Spot). We also incubated an egg for the same person who gave us Spot when they moved out of state. The mother's name is Ozzie, so we named her baby Izzy. We adopted a tiny little gal from Paul Sage and named her Clementine because she's my darlin' ;) We also went through a spurt when our 6 year old wanted to name some, so they ended up with names of his friends at school (Mary Mo, Ojai and Alex).

We have some "circle butts" so they have ball names (Spalding, Wilson and Callaway).

I guess my name "theme" is to give geckos names that remind me of the breeder's city. We have several from Jeremy Letkey and they all have Chicago Cubs names (Wrigley, Ivy, Addison, Waveland, Sheffield, Scout, etc.)

We also bought a pair from the "Ghetto Gecko". He's from New York, so their names are Sinatra and Long Island Lolita :p

Thanks, it's been fun hearing from everyone!

I love the breeder's city theme, that's really awesome and very creative!

Really?? Well I suppose his belly does pooch out in some of those outfits that he wears! I actually don't know too many Final Fantasy fans (besides myself, my man, and my family), but my fiance would always tell me about how his ex and her friends thought Seymore was the hottest thing ever!!

What a great thread!
I love naming reptiles, as I do with any other animal :)
My one and only gecko is named Loca.
This has to do with her personality, she is such a nuthead!
She is really really crazy, and I love her!
So yeah, Loca from Loco, but then female :)

Still need more names

This thread hasn't had any attention for awhile so here it goes:
Yofune, Apophis, Nishi, Nova, Valkyrie, Rasputin, Failynn, Freya, Julius, Shiva, Kupala, Tsuna, Errigal, Streets, SB, Dez, Fancy Pants, Dysis, Shinigami, Ryuu, Kratos, Kiyo

I pick names that fit the looks or personality. We still have 2 that aren't named, but we've only had them a few weeks. Sometimes it takes awhile.

Wow, it has been a while!

We've since aquired
2 woma pythons - Willow and Sydney
A JCP - Delilah
Not sure if I metioned the Dumerils before - Jezebel and Diego
A Blue tongue skink - Sir Stinky McLovin
We lost our Ornate Uro - Salvador
A few tarantulas, but one specific girl with a nasty attitude - Karma
And 2 scorpions - Harry and Lloyd
Another Savannah monitor - Rocko
And one, beautiful male leopard gecko - Gex (he came with the name)

I'm with ya. Sometimes it takes a while for the animal to let you know what it's name is. My big bp girl, Maya, took 2 months! LOL

If I can't think of a good gecko name I go the paint store and look at paint chips in the appropriate color range. That's how I got Saffron for my male PRS and Kiwi for my P. klemmeri.

This should be a sticky. lol

I love historical or mythological names, particularly dragon names:

Tiamat - Mesopotamian dragon creator goddess. She gave birth to all monsters and dragons of the world and was then slayed by her own son who was half-dragon, Marduk. He made her belly into the earth and her back into the sky. Has demonic connotations but for some reason the name has always been associated to good things for me.

Fafnir - dragon slayed by Sigfried in Norse mythology.

Nidhogg - Want to name my male giant this, if I ever get one *crosses fingers*. In Norse mythology, Nidhogg is the name of the dragon that eats at the roots of the world tree, Yggdrasil.

Varmithriax - Think that's how you spell it. It was the name of the dragon from the 80s flick Dragonslayer.

Tien-Lung - One of four types of Chinese dragon. This one means Celestial or Heavenly dragon. Other ones include; Shen-Lung (Spiritual Dragon), Ti-Lung (Earth Dragon), Fut'su or Fut's-Lung (the Underworld Dragon).

Haku - dragon from the animated film 'Spirited Away'.

Penelope - There is a song where they sing this name.. and I always listen to it and love it, I was like it's original I want to name my daughter that! But I named my gecko that!

Tex - My little boy who should be here Wednesday! It started off being named Text.. because people at my barn said I should my little foal who should be here next year that, because I love to do that.. 3000 text messages a month prove that.. now it's Tex.. because I'm a huge Texas Longhorn fan.. and he's so orange! Epyon is my dark patternless rescue leo. Its greek for, "next" because it was my second leo.

Pazuzu is my larger crested gecko, the name is from an episode of Futurama, it was the name of a gargoyle.

Mingo is my smaller crested gecko, the name comes from an old, old, cartoon show from the 80s called the adventures of the little koala. It was a character from that show.

My first leopard gecko still doesn't have a name yet.

Pazuzu was the king of the demons of the wind, and son of the god Hanbi. He also represented the southwestern wind, the bearer of storms and drought.

Cynder- wanted something fire like for the fire skink.

Ares- Which is really spelt Aries (I just prefer the other spelling) was the first astrological sign in the Zodiac, named for the constellation of Aries, called "The Ram" in the Greek tradition, after golden ram that rescued Phrixos, taking him to the land of Colchis. Ramm Just happens to be my boyfriends last name, so it was meant to be. XD

I'm glad this got bumped up! This is a great thread- peoples names are really interesting.

My first gecko was Leapy (or Leppy? Leopy?) because she was a leopard gecko. Not real creative with names as a kid...

Eclipse was named before that was a morph, because her belly is really white and her colors on top really dark.

Kermit because he got MBD and his face looked like Kermit the frog.

Zatoichi is a Japanese movie character who is a blind samurai, and I named her that because I thought she was blind (since then I figured out it was just the albino-light-blindness thing).

Mama and Papa came with those names, though I elongated it to Big Mama and Papa Cinnamon (as he was sort of pale, but has since darkened, so that was actually due to neglect!)

The last four I named because I paid for their shipping with the money I had put aside to go to a Metallica concert, but it was sold out when I waited too long to buy tickets- the concert was the weekend after I got them. Plus they are all pretty severely affected with "enigma syndrome" so they are my "head banging geckos". So I named them after the band members.
Jet= James Hetfield (she is a Mack Bell Enigma and thus black spotted)
Laurel= Lars Ulrick (she has a circle on her head, like the wreathe, and is white like the flower)
Cricket= Kirk Hammet (was the smallest)
Button= Cliff Burton (she has two groupings of spots on her back that look like buttons)
In retrospect I think I should have switched who Jet and Laurel were named after because Laurel likes to scream a lot and Jet is really spastic and jumpy. :main_laugh:

Mine are:

-Morgan (normal, lavendar phase, poss het bell and tremper but not proven). Got her from CelebrityGeckos.com and they had her named "Maury" but it turns out "he" was a "she" so I renamed her. The name is from the Old Welsh masculine name Morcant, which was possibly derived from Welsh mor "sea" and cant "circle," but that really had nothing to do wth the name choice.

-Spike (SHTCT w/no known hets--but from a pet store so her genotype is unknown). She's my sister's leo. My dad named her Spike because we got her as a hatchling and she was so sweet and innocent looking, would climb right on your hand and just look up at you...so he felt he needed to give her a ferocious name! haha

-Felix (Mack Snow Bold Stripe). Felix means "lucky."

-Jasper (SHT) means "treasurer" in Persian. This name was traditionally assigned to one of the wise men (also known as the Magi, or three kings) who were said to have visited the newborn Jesus. It has occasionally been used in the English-speaking world since the Middle Ages. The name can also be given in reference to the English word for the gemstone.

I'm getting a new girl tomorrow, but I don't have a name picked out for her yet. I'll let you know when I do.

Great idea for a thread! I love this kind of stuff. I'm big into history and mythology so most of my are from different things pertaining to either of the two.

Leonidas - Greek for "Strength of a lion" or "Lion like". King of Sparta and hero of the battle of Thermopylae where he was killed by the Persians in 480 BC. (300! woohoo!)

Loki - Trickster, Old Norse origin. Mythology: Loki was the mischievious troubemaker in the Norse pantheon of gods.

Odin - Odin (Old Norse Óðinn) is considered the chief god in Norse mythology and Norse paganism. His name is related to óðr, meaning "excitation," "fury" or "poetry". He stands as the god of wisdom, poetry, prophecy and magic. He is also associated with war, battle, death, victory and the hunt.

Dante - A contracted form of Durante (enduring, lasting, steadfast), which is from the Latin dūrans (enduring). Italian poet famous for writing the Divine Comedy that describes a journey through hell and purgatory and paradise guided by Virgil and his idealized Beatrice

Obadiah - Hebrew origin, and its meaning is "servant of God". Biblical: a lesser prophet from the Old Testament. (In reality, my hubby picked this name... because he loves Ironman.)

Luigi - Variant of Louis (French, Old German), and the meaning of Luigi is "famous warrior". (Actually hubby wanted to name the poor thing "Optimus Prime" since he's a Transformers fanatic... I happened to see the Red Bull commercial and thought it'd be cute as hell.)
